Hello ART & TECH friends from all walks of life!
and I are serving on the Advisory Panel for at San Diego Opera yet again and want to invite you to participate! Last Hackathon's proposals were fantastic and three of them were selected to be supported with monetary prizes by OPERA America for further development. You can learn about them here: https://www.operahack.org/results
Opera Hack 2.0 is an upcoming four-week online hackathon (June 4 - July 2, 2021) for music, theater, and technology experts to virtually gather, brainstorm, and discover new methods for theatrical production and performance. $15,000 in prizes will be awarded to the best ideas and our Call for Participants is open now through *** Monday, April 28th, 2021***.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with creators from different cities internationally to create multidisciplinary teams and bring forward innovative ideas that can advance the production and presentation of opera. Hackathon challenges will be based on an industry-wide survey that can help to identify music theater’s most important issues. The survey will close Saturday, May 1, 2021.

In this time of uncertainty and isolation, we want to be able to reach as many people as possible with the power of art and music so, in lieu of our performance run of , Austin Opera is bringing together with the immersive innovation studio Subvrsive to create a film version of the work. We're grateful to Austin Opera for having the vision to bring this constantly-evolving exploration of Winterreise into the digital realm. We hope that expanding access to it in this way will bring much-needed solace to music lovers worldwide.

As part of our ongoing Winterreise project, is working in partnership with Austin Operaa to create a dynamic, text-driven artwork titled "A Stranger I Arrived… A Stranger I Depart," composed of anonymously-submitted experiences of love and loss.

You can have a hand in creating this piece by clicking on the link above and anonymously answering 3 questions about a past relationship, based on words exchanged between you and the person with whom you shared the experience:
1. What were the words that brought you together?
2. What words represented the height of your relationship?
3. What were the words that ultimately drove you apart?
The work will begin as a static installation opening at Austin Public Libraryrary on March 28, 2020, to accompany Austin Operaa's performances of Winterreise. The installation will ultimately take form as an perpetually-expanding 3D memory sculpture that will be digitally accessible via the web and VR devices from any point on the globe.
A STRANGER I ARRIVED... | glmmr An expanding installation made of your memories.
Austin Opera will be the next stop in our constantly-evolving journey into this powerful song cycle by Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Müller.
Pianist Nyle Matsuoka will join GLMMR operatives Vita Tzykun, Max Bowman, and me for a week-long run at wondrously high-tech new Austin Public Library: March 28-April 5, 2020
