📖 Free Jerusalem – Zev Golan (Quick Take)
Free Jerusalem tells the story of the fighters behind Israel’s creation—not just heroes, but complex figures operating in a chaotic, violent struggle. Based on firsthand interviews, it reveals a “Wild West” era in Jerusalem where underground groups fought the British and Arab forces, shaping the path to statehood.

🕯️ Jewish Underground (Super Short History)
During British rule (1917–1948), Jewish paramilitary groups formed:

🛡️ Haganah – mainly defensive, later became the IDF
💣 Irgun – more aggressive, used retaliatory attacks
⚔️ Lehi – most radical, targeted British rule directly

After WWII, these groups intensified their fight, helping push Britain to leave. In 1948, they merged into Israel’s army.
