AI vs Eily — Challenge #1 🤖
AI created this room.
It looks gorgeous at first glance. But is it actually good interior design?
I’m going to put my 40+ years of real-life interior design experience up against AI and see who wins. 😏
I can already see a few things I’d be questioning…
But before I give my verdict — what can YOU spot?
What works?
What doesn’t?
And what would drive you mad if you actually had to live here?
Have a proper look and tell me below.
Then I’ll give you the Eily verdict.

Have you ever noticed this in older housing developments?
One side of the street often seems just a little more loved.
The houses are well maintained. Gardens have been invested in. People have extended and improved their homes — and they don’t seem to come up for sale quite as often.
I have a theory.
Look at the orientation.
Very often, these are the houses with south or southwest-facing gardens and living spaces.
Sun in the kitchen. Light in the living room. A sunny terrace outside the back door. And even in the middle of winter, precious sunlight coming into the house.
When we’re buying a house, we look at the kitchen, the bathrooms, the size, the décor.
But look at where the sun is first.
You can change almost anything about a house.
You can’t move the sun. ☀️
Next time you’re out, have a wander around an older housing development. Look at both sides of the street and see if you notice the same thing.
Then come back and tell me — I’d love to know if my theory holds up!

One of the easiest tricks I use with clients costs absolutely nothing.
Before buying artwork, I cut paper to the size I’m considering and Blu Tack it to the wall.
Sometimes one large piece works best.
Sometimes a gallery wall feels better.
Sometimes neither is right.
Living with the shapes for a few days tells you far more than trying to imagine it.
It’s a simple way to make a better decision before spending money.
Would you try this in your own home?

We spend so much of our lives indoors.
So why settle for a home that doesn’t lift your mood?
A happy home isn’t about buying more. It’s about making better decisions with the space you already have. Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.
This weekend, take a fresh look at one room in your home. Notice how it makes you feel. If something isn’t working, there’s usually a reason… and usually a solution.

22 Cheap Ways to Make Your Home Look More Expensive:
Normally, I find myself agreeing with The Guardian. But this headline stopped me in my tracks.
Why should our homes look expensive?
Who are we trying to impress?
Surely the goal should be to create a home that makes us happier, functions better and reflects who we are—not one that gives the impression it cost more than it did.
The more we compare our homes with other people’s, the more likely we are to feel that what we have isn’t enough.
Comparison is a terrible design brief. It usually ends with us spending money we didn’t need to spend on things we didn’t really want.
Before buying something new, could you move it, repaint it, repair it or simply see it differently?
Good design isn’t about creating the illusion of wealth. It’s about creating a home that works beautifully for the people who live in it.
What do you think? Have social media and magazines made us too focused on how our homes look instead of how they make us feel?

Children’s bedrooms aren’t just about bright colours or the latest theme.
The best ones change as children grow, encourage independence, make bedtime easier and still work for parents five years from now.
A well-designed bedroom can become a place to sleep, play, learn, read, create and simply be.
Good design isn’t about spending more.
It’s about making better decisions.
If you’re planning a nursery, a child’s bedroom or a room for teenagers, I’d be happy to help before you commit.

Even Adam needed a second opinion… 😉
So do most of my clients.
The difference is, they ask before they spend the money.
If you’re building, renovating or stuck on a design decision, come and ask.
I’d be delighted to help.
