Join us for a fun-filled Rhythm & Rhyme Music Workshop as part of Children's Book Festival 2026!

Perfect for young children and their grown ups, this interactive session combines music, movement, songs and stories to encourage creativity, confidence and a love of language. Get ready to clap to the beat, sing along and discover the magic of rhythm and rhyme together!

These sessions will take place on Saturdays throughout October and during the mid-term break in various library locations. The first workshops are on

Supporting Positive Mealtimes for Children with Aileen Gillic.

Parents and caregivers of children aged 1 to 8 years are invited to join Aileen Gillic for a practical 90-minute workshop designed to help children become more confident and curious around food and eating.

This engaging session will explore common challenges around feeding, offering practical, real-world strategies to help reduce stress at mealtimes and create a more relaxed and positive eating environment. Discover how to support your child in developing a healthy relationship with food that can last a lifetime.

There was a great buzz in Ashbourne Library as we celebrated Culture Night with our friends from Ashbourne Trad Fest!

Thank you so much to our wonderful performers who put on a spectacular show of traditional Irish music and storytelling.

We had a great time in Ashbourne Library for our Clubs Sign Up Day.

As we count down to National Public Libraries Open Day this Saturday 26 September, we're pleased to share words from ambassador Rachael English, broadcaster and writer. From childhood visits to her local library in Shannon to her own career as an author, libraries have played an important role in Rachael's life. Here's why she believes they remain such valuable spaces for readers of all ages.

"When I was growing up in Shannon, the town was still too young to have a purpose-built library. Instead, it was housed in a vacant flat near the airport.

"On Saturdays, a group of us would trek across the town to find something new to read.
Those books opened my imagination to other places and possibilities - and later influenced my own writing.

"So much has changed since then. But libraries remain one of those rare public places where no one is looking for anything from you - and where children can discover the enduring magic of a good story."
