MINI RUGBY NOTES: U9 & U10 BLITZ DAY

Great morning out at the club as Mullingar RFC hosted Birr, Longford and Edenderry for a U9 and U10 blitz. For so many teams to be able to travel and compete so early in the season is a real reflection of the fun filled environments being provided by our Midlands Rugby Community. There was some real great rugby played by all clubs, showcasing the tremendous efforts being put in by all coaches.

Big thanks to all the coaches, officials and car park volunteers who made the morning run so smoothly, and well done to all the young players who took to the field.

Thanks to our visiting clubs for making the trip — here's to the next one!

🏉 An away trip to remember!

Congratulations to our senior debuts today🔥 Both Muireann and Orlagh have come up through the youths and neither looked out of place today💪🏻 Muireann’s strength and determination was visible all over the pitch today and Orlagh powered over the line twice on her debut. Two girls who are a massive asset to our Heifers💪🏻 We can’t wait to see you in action for the season❤️🩶

The Heifers fell short today after a determined performance today in Kilkenny. A young and developing team made the long journey, and after a solid start, playing the majority of the first 30 mins in Kilkenny’s half, Kilkenny started to got a fire in their bellies. Mullingar still in the mix in the second half, but two late tries for Kilkenny sealed the win for the home side. Full time whistle Kilkenny 34 -Mullingar 15🏉
The women look ahead to their home fixture against UCD next weekend🙌🏻

*U16 Girls Blue Team Strong Start to Midlands League*

The Mullingar U16 Girls Blue team hosted Edenderry in Shay Murtagh Park on Friday evening.
In the first game of the season and their first games of U16 Rugby Mullingar started strongly getting a try from early pressure.
Our Mullingar Girls showed great teamwork, supporting each other in the breakdown and in open play applying constant pressure on Edenderry.
The pressure resulting in a couple more tries before the beak.

Mullingar continued to apply pressure after the break keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Edenderry were refusing to give in with some strong phases in defense and a couple of turnovers. Edenderry attack was being frustrated by the Mullingar defense with some strong tackles and turnovers of their own.
To Edenderry's credit they kept pushing to the final whistle and got a try of their own just before the final whistle.

Well done to both teams as they got their seasons started with plenty to work on as the season progresses.

On Sunday morning the Senior Women travel to Kilkenny for their first Leinster League fixture of the year🏉 Kilkenny just promoted to Division 2, prove an unknown opponent, the women know they will have to bring their A game to bring home the win♥️🩶

The Women have been training hard on and off the pitch for the last two months, and are looking forward to getting their Leinster League campaign underway💪🏻 Best of luck team!
