Mullingar Pool Action Group
We are a community action group campaigning for an upgraded public swimming pool in Mullingar.

Mullingar Pool Action Group held a meeting in the Greville Arms Hotel earlier this week.
Westmeath County Council approved the Part 8 planning permission for the Mullingar Regional Sports Complex at Blackhall last October . The plans include an 8-lane 25-meter swimming pool, a 20-meter teaching pool with a splash pad, a 12-court sports hall, and a state-of-the-art gym.
It is absolutely crucial that significant funding is secured to drive this project forward. It is imperative that this facility is delivered in a timely manner as the current public swimming pool can not accommodate the rapidly expanding population of Mullingar.
We will continue to work with WCC, our local politicians and wider community to help progress this project and make this vision a reality.

The Irish Times contains an interesting article today on the decline of public swimming pools in Ireland.
“A report published by Swim Ireland last December said that at least a quarter of the swimming pools in the State are more than 35 years old and coming to the end of their lifespan.”
The current Mullingar public swimming pool has been in operation since the early 1970’s and continues to serve our community brilliantly as it has done over the last 50+ years.
However the town’s population and needs have grown significantly since then and the proposed development of the new fit for purpose swimming pool as part of the new Mullingar Regional Sports Centre in Blackhall will be a much welcome and necessary addition to the community.

🎉🎉 We got planning!! 🎉🎉
For the past three years, as a community group we have worked extremely hard in highlighting the need and advocating for a new swimming pool to serve the greater Mullingar community as a whole.
We are delighted to see that full Part 8 planning has been granted to Westmeath County Council to commence the tendering for and ultimately construction of the new swimming pool 🏗️.
Getting to this point has seen so many people within Mullingar working hard and giving their time and energy to the project. In many ways the real work starts now but it’s important to thank the elected members of the council, our local politicians and WCC in getting to this stage.
