Food plus art two of my favourite things

Brilliant evening at the Feolas Art Exhibition last week as part of CorkOnAForkFest , I’m still thinking about the stunning piece by Claire O Reilly the level of detail was incredible!

Highlight of the evening was a brilliant parcel discussion by Orla McAndrew , Dr Matthew Whyte from Sample-Studios , Jack O’Keeffe of Gather + Gather & Darren Walsh from James Whelan Butchers discussing all things food, creativity & art. The art on display was amazing! Colour inspired Design & Management | Grainne did a fantastic job as MC for the evening.

As John McKenna of John & Sally McKenna | Ireland opened the exhibition I was reminded of my own beginnings & how Gingerbread House came to be. At 14 I got my first job working at Arbutus Bread, Declan Ryan taught me all I know about bread, the importance of quality ingredients & not rushing the process of creating food. Years later I returned to Arbutus Bread & when the opportunity to start Gingerbread House came about Declan encourage me to give it a go. 7 years later still going strong, I’ve turned my love of food & creating into a career & business.

Food, art & creativity are important to our daily lives in ways we often don’t stop to appreciate.
