As part of Local Development Week 2025, the SECAD team enjoyed a special visit to Fota Wildlife Park — one of the region’s key tourist attractions and a long-standing local non-profit organisation dedicated to conservation, education, and public engagement with wildlife. Over the years, SECAD has been proud to support Fota’s development, including a €200,000 grant through the Rural Development Programme in 2013, which contributed to the creation of the Animal Care & Conservation Centre. This investment resulted in the creation of ten new jobs in areas such as animal health, veterinary care, and support services. Our ongoing support has also included work placements through the Tús programme, as well as opportunities for training, marketing, and networking through the Ring of Cork Initiative. During our visit, the team had the chance to hear the inspiring story of Fota’s evolution from Assistant CEO Suzanne Kearney.
