I often get asked this question: what’s the difference between a fiddle and violin?
You might be surprised to know that they’re actually the same instrument!
The difference is mainly in how the instrument is played and the musical tradition behind it.
☘️ In Irish traditional music, the fiddle is all about rhythm, ornamentation, learning by ear and bringing jigs, reels, hornpipes etc to life.
🎼 In classical music, the violin is associated with orchestras, concertos, written scores and classical techniques.
Same four strings. Same instrument. Two very different musical worlds! 🎻
Did you already know that a fiddle and a violin were the same instrument?
🎻 One fiddle lesson slot available!
I currently have one Wednesday slot at 6pm available for Irish fiddle lessons, either online or in person.
Lessons are tailored to your level and interests, with a focus on traditional tunes, technique, ornamentation and building confidence in your playing.
