Dundalk Dog Rescue
Dundalk Dog Rescue is an entirely voluntary, non-profit making service provided by a group of ordina Dogs end up at the pound for a number of reasons.
To save the lives of dogs on the ” put to sleep” lists in pounds, to help rehabilitate and rehome them, and to promote responsible dog ownership. A stray dog in the pound has 5 days to be reclaimed or re-homed (Control of Dogs Act, 1986). A dog surrendered by it’s owners may be euthanised immediately. Louth County Council does it’s best to rehome dogs but unfortunately due to the sheer volume of d

Barney – RESERVED 💙🐾
Our little Poodle‑Doodle had a big day yesterday as he headed in for his neutering appointment. We’re happy to share that everything went smoothly, and he’s now back in foster recovering comfortably — pain meds, cuddles, and of course the classic cone of shame included!
A huge thank‑you to his wonderful foster family for giving him the best after‑care.
Barney will be heading off on his trial homing in the coming days, and we’re so excited for this next chapter in his journey.

As pet parents, we need to know that dog heatstroke is an absolute emergency. ⚠️🌡🥵
If you suspect your dog is overheating, immediate action is crucial!
Calling your vet right away and starting the cooling process before you arrive at the clinic is the most important thing you can do to prevent severe organ damage.🧊🏥
Please save this image to know the symptoms and risks.
You never know when you may need it.
It’s knowledge every dog owner needs to have. 🐕❤️

Congratulations to Helen Buckley, the first recipient of the new DDR Certificate of Appreciation 👏
Helen has fundraised for for Dundalk Dog Rescue by taking part in the last 3 VHI Mini Marathons. Recently she celebrated a special Birthday and instead of presents she asked her family to donate to DDR.
Along with her husband David they also sponsor 2 kennels at the Centre and are regularly calling up to us with food donations ❤️
The Certificate was presented to her and her family members by DDR Kennel Manager Paddy Monahan.

🥵⚠️Friday is here and the weather warning still in place! ☀️🛑
The weather warning is still going strong for today, so please continue to rest those pups!
You and your dog(s) have done amazingly well this week, proving they really don't miss a few walks when they have great indoor alternatives!
We hope this week has given you a chance to try some fun new enrichment games and build an even closer bond with your pup.
Let us know in the comments what you've tried this week and how it worked out! ⬇️
Well done to everyone for keeping their furry best friends safe, hydrated, and cool this week! 🐾

Pedro got a much‑needed makeover 🐾🧡
With the temperatures rising this past week, our wee man was really struggling under his heavy, thick coat — it was genuinely weighing him down.
We’re so lucky to have Ann, an experienced dog groomer, as part of Team DDR. She worked her magic and quite literally lifted a weight off Pedro. He’s feeling so much lighter and happier now.
Thank you, Ann, for giving him the comfort he needed.
✨ Adoption Update: Cooper’s Happy Ending ✨
When Cooper, a nearly 10‑year‑old Cavalier King Charles, arrived with us in early January, he needed stability, comfort, and a fresh start. His previous family could no longer give him the care he needed, but thanks to our incredible foster team, he was safe straight away.
We had a home waiting on our list, and after a few weeks of trial homing, Cooper settled in beautifully.
Then came the milestone — Cooper turned 10… and celebrated by being officially adopted 🎂🏡
Our heartfelt thanks go to Joan, who has once again opened her home to a DDR dog. Cooper couldn’t have wished for a better birthday or a better future.

Before you clip on the leash, check the temperature! 🐾☀️🌡
Hot weather can be tough on our dogs, quickly leading to dehydration and heat-related issues.
Because dogs can't cool down as easily as humans, a day that feels warm to you can be dangerous for them.
We've created a helpful image to guide you on when it's safe to venture out and when it's best to remain indoors.
When the heat rises, keep walks short or stick to early mornings (before 8 AM) and late evenings (after 8 PM)!🐶

The 'Recycle for Rescue project' set up by Dundalk Institute of Tehnology (DKIT) in 2024 has recently won a Bronze Award at the Re-Turn Scheme awards!
DKIT are reducing plastic waste on campus by collecting the Re-Turn scheme bottles and cans from students and staff. These bottles are then changed into much needed funds that contribute towards the food costs for the dogs in our care. ♻️
Over the course of 3 months (Jan-Mar 2026), recycled waste in DKIT has been reduced by 5%! During that time, 81% of our food bill was covered.
Thanks to Rita Mathews who co-ordinates the initiative.👏
Thanks to all the staff and students at DKIT who take part, and to our volunteers who collect the bottles and cans and take the to the Re-Turn machines. 🧡

🥵⚠️Thursday Reminder: Keep those paws off the hot pavement! 🐾🚫
We are nearing the end of the weather warning, but the temperatures are still dangerous.
If your dog is getting a bit restless, skip the walk and let them use their nose instead!
Did you know that just 15 minutes of sniffing and mental stimulation can tire a dog out more than a long walk?
It naturally lowers their heart rate and promotes calmness. Take this opportunity to play a scent game or build a quick DIY puzzle!
It’s the perfect way to bond while keeping them 100% safe from heatstroke. 🧠✨
