50 CAPS | JOSH OAKLEY

A special milestone for Suttonians RFC this weekend as Josh Oakley makes his 50th senior appearance for the club! 🏉

Since joining ahead of the 2023/24 season, Josh has become a key member of our First XV, playing his part in our Metropolitan Cup and Spencer Cup triumphs.

Josh becomes just the seventh member of our current senior men's squad to reach 50 caps, a fantastic achievement and testament to his commitment to the club.

Originally from Wales, Josh and his family have become a big part of the Suttonians community, making this milestone even more special.

Congratulations, Josh, and best of luck this weekend!

Suttonians RFC — In Memory of Simon English

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Suttonians RFC announces the sudden and untimely passing of our dear friend, former player, and past President, Simon English.

Simon left us far too soon, and the loss of someone so full of life, laughter, and generosity is felt deeply by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Simon was a big man in every sense of the word and those of us lucky enough to know him will tell you that his personality was even larger than his presence. He had a warmth and a smile that could light up any room, and a rare gift for making every single person he met feel genuinely welcome. That is a rarer quality than people realise, and Simon had it in abundance.

His contribution to this club is almost impossible to measure. Simon gave everything to Suttonians, from pulling on the jersey for the First XV, to coaching his son's team, to sitting on management committees, to rolling up his sleeves to repair the clubhouse and make the pitches fit for play. He ran our club lottery with the same quiet dedication he brought to everything else. Whenever he was needed, Simon was there, no questions asked. Whatever was asked of him, he did it and always with that trademark smile.

Beyond the rugby, Simon was a proud member of the Garda Traffic Corps, where he earned the same respect and affection from his colleagues that he earned everywhere he went.

He was also a much loved member of our Golf Society and many a great day out was made better for having Simon in the company, even when he beat you.

But as much as Simon loved Suttonians, there was never any doubt about what mattered most to him. He loved his family with everything he had. He was immensely proud of his daughter Ciara, his son Liam, and his beloved wife Susan and rightly so.

Simon English was Suttonians through and through. He will leave a gap in this club, and in the wider rugby community across the country that simply cannot be filled.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Susan, Ciara, and Liam, and to all of Simon's family and friends at this very sad time.

Rest easy, Simon. 💙🏉

Reposing in Jennings Funeral Home, Oscar Traynor Road, on Wednesday afternoon 7th October from 2-4pm. Removal on Thursday morning to the Church of SS. Peter & Paul, Baldoyle, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in Balgriffin Cemetery Extension.
