We were delighted to attend the Irish News Business Excellence Awards last night at the Titanic Belfast, where we were proud to be shortlisted in the Sustainable Business category.

Congratulations to all of the finalists and winners on the night 👏

A huge thank you to our colleagues, clients and friends who joined us and helped make it such an enjoyable evening. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Following on from our recent discussion on the future of data centre design, we're taking a closer look at one of the key tools helping engineers deliver more efficient, resilient, and sustainable facilities: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).💡

CFD modelling allows engineers to visualise airflow and temperature distribution throughout a data centre before construction begins, helping to identify potential hotspots, optimise cooling strategies, and validate design decisions at an early stage.

As power demands and rack densities continue to increase, understanding how air moves through a facility is critical to achieving both operational performance and energy efficiency.⚙️

At IN2 Engineering, CFD analysis forms an important part of our data centre design process, enabling us to develop solutions that support reliability, performance, and long-term sustainability.

In this latest video, William O'Donnell shares insights into the role CFD plays in creating high-performing data centre environments and why it remains a vital consideration for the next generation of digital infrastructure.

As demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow, the future of data centres will be defined by efficiency, resilience, and sustainability🌍

From advanced airflow modelling and thermal optimisation to innovative cooling strategies and renewable energy integration, every design decision plays a critical role in delivering high-performance, future-ready facilities.

At IN2 Engineering, we're passionate about creating data centre environments that maximise operational efficiency while supporting long-term sustainability goals.

We're looking forward to continuing these conversations at DataCloud Global Congress, taking place at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France, from 2-4 June 2026. If you're attending, we'd love to connect and discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping the next generation of data centre infrastructure.🤝

At IN2, our Building Information Modelling (BIM) Team plays a key role in delivering coordinated, efficient, and technically robust building projects.

As early adopters of BIM software, IN2 transitioned projects from traditional CAD platforms to Revit in 2014. Since then, our BIM processes and techniques have continued to evolve through collaboration between our in-house BIM departments across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, ensuring ongoing development, refinement, and consistency in how we deliver projects.

Today, BIM is central to how we coordinate complex building systems, improve collaboration, and deliver high-quality project information across every stage of design and construction.

Using accurate digital modelling and disciplined information management, our BIM specialists help project teams to:
✅ Improve coordination across disciplines
✅ Identify clashes and risks earlier
✅ Reduce rework during delivery
✅ Improve design accuracy and consistency
✅ Support faster, clearer decision-making
✅ Strengthen project collaboration and communication

Working closely with our M&E engineers across Ireland and the UK, our in-house BIM team produces robust digital models that bring clarity to technically demanding environments.

Alongside core modelling and coordination, we support projects through structured workflows, model-based reviews, visualisation outputs, and consistent standards for information exchange and deliverables. This BIM-led approach allows teams to resolve issues earlier, improve efficiency, and make decisions based on reliable, coordinated information, not fragmented data and assumptions.

On Friday, we hosted our annual Employee Appreciation Day at the beautiful Castleknock Hotel in Dublin.

The event is always a highlight of the year, bringing together colleagues from across our international offices to celebrate the incredible people who make IN2 what it is. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the promotions, professional qualifications, and milestone anniversaries achieved across the business over the past year.

Following a morning of presentations from our directors and representatives from each of our business units, we were delighted to welcome Dermot Whelan, who delivered an insightful and engaging session on mindfulness and stress management techniques. With this week marking Mental Health Awareness Week, it was a timely reminder of the importance of switching off, maintaining balance, and prioritising wellbeing.

A huge thank you to Dermot, the team at Castleknock Hotel, and of course our amazing IN2 team for making the day such a memorable occasion.

We’re already looking forward to next year!

We’re delighted that the Shankill Shared Women’s Centre has been shortlisted for the 2026 Royal Society of Ulster Architects Architecture Awards Public Choice Award.

A meaningful project for the local community, the centre was designed to create a welcoming, inclusive and empowering space for women and families in North Belfast. We’re proud to have contributed to a project with such social impact alongside the wider design team.

🌍 This Earth Day, we’re reminded that the most sustainable building is often the one that already exists.

At 70 Great Bridgewater Street in Manchester, retrofit has been central to delivering a modern, high-performance workplace, without the environmental cost of demolition and rebuild.

By retaining and reimagining the existing structure, the project has:
• Saved approximately 4,000 tonnes of carbon
• Achieved BREEAM Outstanding and NABERS 5-Star ratings
• Delivered a significant reduction in embodied carbon compared to a new build

This project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and design can transform existing assets into future-ready, sustainable spaces.

At IN2 Engineering, we are proud to contribute to projects that support a lower-carbon built environment and align with global Net Zero ambitions.
