What pillow? What mattress? What sleeping position?

I don’t recommend any particular one.

Our bodies are different and most importantly they’re ever-changing. What feels comfortable today may not feel comfortable tomorrow.

I think the bigger question is not always what bed are we sleeping in, but what shape are we bringing into the bed?

The positions we choose to sleep in can be information. Sometimes we’re simply finding the position that allows us to move away from discomfort and rest.

So experiment. Notice. And listen to what feels comfortable for your body right now... and if you cant get comfortable no matter what you do - you may want to be considering getting some body alignment work done...

How many of us are living in chronic stress without even realising it?

And how many different ways are there to support nervous system regulation?

I’ve tried many of them. And in my own experience, Amatsu has been the one that works best for me.

The way I practise Amatsu, I only work with what the body is ready for.

I don’t try to force it somewhere it isn’t ready to go.

Because regulation isn’t about forcing yourself to relax. It’s about creating the conditions where the body has an opportunity to settle, reorganise and find its way back towards baseline.

You keep treating the place that hurts.

But the place that hurts isn’t always the problem.

I look at the whole body — how it stands, moves, compensates and adapts.

I think our conditioning goes much further than just “no pain, no gain.”

It can go as far as believing I need somebody external because I am not enough. My body is not enough. Somebody needs to do something to me.

And I don’t really see the body that way.

The body is actually incredibly capable of reorganising when we give it certain conditions to do so.

That’s what I feel I’m doing with my work. I’m not forcing the body into a position. I’m giving it an opportunity to find a different way.

The BIG question is - how much of that can the person sustain?

Because you still have to get off my table and go back into your life.. Your movement habits, thought patterns... Your stresses. Everything that shaped your body in the first place.

And I think that’s a much more interesting conversation than simply asking whether a treatment “worked.”..

The deeper into the woods the more trees, and what interests me the most at the moment is the way my own body arranges itself around different events and how can I find my way home. I think that only by understanding myself better I can become a better practitioner. And I certainly wouldn't be here where I am if not for somebody else's work done before. The road is long and it only keeps leading back to.. one way of being.

A friend sent me a video about bone density, and it sent me searching for research on what happens to bone density when the body realigns and forces are distributed differently...

I found no studies.

My common sense screams, “Of course it would make a difference.” But common sense is not evidence, and until something is properly studied, we cannot present it as fact.

What we do know from experience (myself both as a client and a practitioner of Amatsu) is that helping the body reorganise into a more balanced, functional position can have incredible outcomes for movement, dynamic stability and range of motion.

What we lack is the research. And good research costs enormous amounts of money.

And talking about studies on Amatsu Therapy itself and it's effects to the body... I hope that one day we can come together - Amatsu practitioners and maybe even the people who have experienced its benefits - and help fund the research needed to investigate these questions properly and bring Amatsu further into the scientific conversation.

The word is spreading. But I feel it could spread so much further... What do you think?
