Winter Sunshine in the Harbour

One of my favourite sights and sounds of the winter time is a flock of Brent Geese flying overhead. They feed on eelgrass and algae in the sea, turning to terrestrial grasslands for a few months before making the return journey back to Canada! I managed to capture them today in the evening sun near Port Beach, Clogherhead heading for the next foraging site.....which turned out to be a nearby field.

Ｌａｐｗｉｎｇ ｏｎ ｔｈｅ Ｗｉｎｇ

The northern lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) or pilibín as gaeilge was declared the Republic of Ireland's national bird by a committee of the Irish Wildlife Conservancy in 1990.
