I hope to post more than 4 times this year, so here goes !! 👀

Last season from a team sport perspective, was very successful, highlights that can’t be
capture by cups….but we won some which always helps too 👀

Hurling, had a very solid physical prep block in pre-season, testing and prescribing at intermittent points throughout the year to keep pushing the needle. Latter end of the season supported athletes with return to play and the team with performance nutrition, winning all group championship games and making the final 4 with a tough semi-final contest.

Intercounty Camogie, U23 Intercounty Munster Champions, proceeding into the All-Ireland final but came up short unfortunately, what a bunch !!

Camogie Club, Premier Intermediate county champions and Munster champions, progressing to an All-Ireland campaign with an exciting semis which saw us through to an All-Ireland final. Fell at the final hurdle.

Some wins, a lot of learning and great craic 🚀

ACL rupture ⁣
I injured myself (non-contact injury) during a practise match. Unlike my other ACL tear in ~2018/2019 I knew this was a nasty one straight away 👀😂 {insert cornflake crunching noise} dynamic knee valgus (inward knee collapse). ⁣

To oversimplify this, injuries happen mostly due to under exposure or over-exposure. ⁣

I was underexposed to the demands of my sport 🏀 as I allowed my own training to drop way down the priority list with juggling being very busy with work & my PhD research. ⁣

When we train, we expect adaptation i.e. gain muscle, strength etc⁣

When we don’t train, we forget there’s also an adaptation - reversibility. ⁣

I did not prepare for the demands of the sport, I did not train enough and adaptation went into reverse mode 📉 this is also applicable to connective tissue i.e. ligaments becoming brittle (smaller + stiff).⁣

I’ll be documenting my rehab and return to play……and rethink my priorities 👀📈

Athlete recovery is a major piece of the performance puzzle. ⁣

Cold water immersion has become a big part of team sports recovery protocols and beliefs. ⁣

Has it a place ? It depends. ⁣
Is it a magic recovery method? No.

A lot of athletes fall into the gap.

Time and again, I see athletes cleared by their physio to return to training.

The problem is this is often (at best) based on pain-free non-linear running.

This is not return to play - a major gap exists between this and the true demands of the athletes sport. Unfortunately, a lot of athletes fall into this gap and get re-injured.

I am thrilled for being selected for the senior national team 🇮🇪 competing at the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

I’ve worked with Holly for a number of years from the age of 14 and I am so happy to have played a small role in her continued (and earned) successes.

I was at a local Basketball match recently and was surprised to see that the warm up had changed a lot and not for the better.
