If you’re planning a visit to Venice this year..
We recommend a visit to ‘Kan Yasuda – Isole del Silenzio’ (Islands of Silence), presented by the Fondation d’Entreprise Wilmotte as an official Venice Biennale collateral event.
In this exhibition, marble sculptures give form to a ‘mineral garden’, creating an inner landscape imbued with silence, simplicity, and essentiality. The voids carved into the stone embody the Japanese aesthetic concept of Ma — an interval or active space — establishing a quiet harmony between form and formlessness, presence and absence. Within the dimly lit exhibition space, ten sculptures are arranged like ‘islands’ from which a space of stillness gradually emerges.

The exhibition runs until 22 November
In 2023, we were delighted to welcome Kan Yasuda to Making In.

Nakashima Foundation for Peace
This foundation’s mission is to maintain the architecture and the furniture collection that Japanese-American woodworker and architect George Nakashima designed and built on his New Hope, Pennsylvania property. To study, uphold, and perpetuate the great spiritual traditions he embraced and integrated into his work, especially that of Sri Aurobindo, Zen Buddhism, and Christian monasticism. To build Altars of Peace and send them to all parts of the world as ecumenical seeds of Peace planted for all humankind.
In 2022, we were pleased to welcome Mira Nakashima to Making In. Mira Nakashima is the daughter of George Nakashima, President and Creative Director of George Nakashima Woodworkers and President of Nakashima Foundation for Peace.
