One of the biggest things I’ve learned through training is that every session doesn’t need to be a test.
Sometimes the goal is to get stronger.
Sometimes it’s endurance.
Sometimes it’s speed.
Sometimes it’s recovery.
And that means your training can look completely different from one day to the next.
So if you see someone running slowly who you know can run fast… or someone lifting a weight that looks “easy” for them… don’t assume they’re not working hard.
They might be training exactly what they need to train that day.
There’s method to the madness. 😉
And before anyone thinks this is easy because I work in the fitness industry… it’s not!
Yes, I know what to do, but knowing what to do and consistently doing it are two very different things.
Nothing extreme. Just focusing on the basics:
🥩 Prioritising protein
🍚 Increasing carbs when I need them
🍫 Allowing treats without feeling guilty
🍽️ Averaging around 2,300 calories
🚶🏼♀️ 13,000+ steps a day
🍷 Cutting back on alcohol — only 2 occasions since August
🏋🏼♀️ Changing my training plan and working with a new coach
And it hasn’t been perfect.
I’ve had the cookie. The cinnamon roll. The extra chocolate. 😂
But I’m getting much better at enjoying those things rather than feeling guilty afterwards.
I don’t need to compensate for it or “start again Monday”. I enjoy it, move on and get back to my normal routine.
Because I’m still human. I get hungry, I have cravings, I have busy days and sometimes I don’t feel like training either!
The goal isn’t just to weigh less. I want to maintain my muscle, get stronger , more powerful and improve my fitness while making changes that actually fit around my life.
No cutting out carbs. No starving. No perfection.
Just consistency. 🤍
3.5kg down, and feeling stronger and fitter along the way.

You don’t need to “undo” your summer. ☀️
If you’ve enjoyed a few more meals out, drinks, takeaways, ice creams and treats over the summer and you’re now thinking you’d like to feel a little more on track, that’s completely fine.
I’m not a nutrition coach, so this isn’t me giving you a personalised diet plan — these are simply things I think are worth considering from my own experience of training, eating well and trying to maintain a balanced lifestyle.
The first thing I’d do? Create some awareness.
If you genuinely don’t know what you’re eating, it’s very difficult to know what you might need to change.
You don’t necessarily need to track forever, but spending a week or two weighing and logging your food honestly can be really eye-opening. And yes… that means the mayo, sauces, oils, jams, coffees and little handfuls of things too. 😂
You might discover that your meals are actually pretty good, but your portions are bigger than you realised. Or maybe it’s all the little extras adding up.
And then you can make changes without completely turning your life upside down.
No “good” foods. No “bad” foods. No “cheat meals”.
Just food.
Some foods are going to give you more nutritional value and keep you fuller for longer, while other foods are there because they taste bloody lovely. 😂
Both can have a place.
You don’t need to eat perfectly. You just need to make the majority of your choices work towards what you’re trying to achieve.
And if you’re not willing to make any changes, that’s okay too. But then be honest with yourself about whether now is actually the time you want to make that change.
You don’t need to be miserable to make progress. You just need to be consistent. 💜
And please, get the people around you on board too. Having support from your partner, family and friends can make a huge difference.
Anyone else feeling like they’re ready to get back into a bit of a routine after summer? 👀
I’m taking two weeks off soon, and because I’m self-employed, there’s no sick pay or holiday pay waiting for me.
So over the last few weeks, I’ve been trying to plan ahead rather than just hope for the best.
💰 Cutting out unnecessary spending
I’ve been doing a LOT of window shopping 😂 Gym clothes, runners, random things I definitely don’t need… and then closing the tab without buying them. 😂
I did have to buy a new SSD because my laptop was completely full, but that was a business necessity rather than a want!
📅 Planning around upcoming bills
I’ve looked ahead at the bigger payments I have coming up and, where possible, moved dates around so they don’t all land while I’m off.
💸 Putting money aside
I’ve been making sure I have money set aside for the payments I know are coming.
📉 Planning for the income drop before I’m even off
The tricky thing is that it’s not just the two weeks without working. The couple of weeks beforehand can be quieter too, because clients are using up passes they’ve already purchased rather than buying new ones.
💻 And… building Move with Ruth.
I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to pre-record content so I can continue releasing new workouts while I’m off. It means the business can keep ticking along even when I’m not physically teaching classes.
And yes, I know some of you have seen me with coffees and cinnamon rolls during all of this 😂 in fairness to Ronan regularly gives me the change from his pocket for a little treat, he knows cinnamon rolls are my weakness 😂😂😂❤️
Plus, we have a very good coffee machine at home. ☕️
I think this is one of the harder parts of being self-employed that you don’t always see — you have to plan for the times when you can’t work.
It’s not glamorous, but it’s part of running your own business. Where are all my self-employed honeys at? 😂💜
