Meet Pinky, a 22 year old Galah parrot who visited our team after over-plucking her feathers 🦜
To safely investigate the cause, pinky was sedated while our vet Michaela performed an Avian Feather Plucking Panel. A small blood sample was taken from her jugular vein.
Keep watching to see Pinky’s blood under the microscope! 🔬 unlike humans, bird red blood cells contain a nucleus, making them fascinating to look at.
Feather plucking can have many causes including medical conditions, nutritional deficiencies and behavioural factors, so a thorough investigation is an important first step.
We wish Pinky all the best on her road to recovery 💙

📣EU Pet Passport Update! 📣
If you have friends or family in the UK who travel to Ireland or Europe with their dog, cat or ferret, this is an important update!🐾
EU Pet Passports can now only be issued to people whose permanent residence is within the EU. As a result, many UK residents travelling with their pets will now need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued in their home country instead.
Irish vets are also now legally required to verify proof of residency before issuing or updating an EU Pet Passport.
➡Swipe through to learn what has changed, who it affects and what you'll need before travelling.
📣 Please share this post with friends or family in the UK who may be unaware of these new requirements.

Strike a pose… Winnie understood the assignment!
Four month old miniature Jack Russell Winnie visited our Small Animal Health Centre in Clonakilty to be fitted for very first harness with a little help from Laura, our Sales Manager 🦮
Choosing a first harness can feel a little overwhelming, especially with so many styles and sizes available. That’s why we take the time to offer one to one advice and guidance, helping owners find the best option for their pet.
Our Try before You Buy service allows pets to try on a range of collars and harnesses in store before making a purchase, giving owners confidence they’ve chosen an option that’s comfortable, secure and suited to their dog’s needs.
Thank you to Winnie’s owner for letting us share this gorgeous photo. We think she’s got her modelling career all figured out already 💙

We were delighted to welcome a group of Transition Year students from Sacred Heart Secondary School to our Small Animal Hospital in Clonakilty recently.
The students had the opportunity to spend time behind the scenes, learn more about the day-to-day workings of a veterinary hospital and and gain an insight into the wide range of careers available within the veterinary profession.
From consulting rooms and diagnostic equipment to patient care and hospital operations, we hope the visit provided a valuable glimpse into life in a busy veterinary practice.
A big thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. We wish them every success with their future studies and career paths.💙

Thank you to Tots' owner for allowing us to share Tots' story.
If your pet is struggling with itchy skin, recurrent ear problems, excessive scratching or licking their paws, our team can help investigate the cause and discuss the treatment options available.
