The recently completed Market Street Development, Cootehill, Co. Cavan with selected before and after photos.
This mixed-use development, located on Market Street in the heart of Cootehill, Co. Cavan, involved the extensive refurbishment and partial demolition of two existing buildings to deliver 4 maisonettes, 5 apartments, and 1 ground-floor retail unit. The project was undertaken on behalf of Galetech Group, with architectural design led by JM Johnstone Architects.
The project presented significant logistical and structural challenges due to the tight nature of the site and restricted rear access. With the buildings situated directly along the Main Street, with a narrow shared alleyway available for access, careful coordination with neighbouring business—reliant on frequent deliveries—was essential throughout the project.
The demolition phase required extensive propping and structural support to ensure the stability of retained building elements. This was particularly complex given the confined space and the need to protect adjacent properties.
Despite the constraints, the project team pulled off an outstanding result with the aid of quality subcontractors and suppliers.
