Cake is my love language, my calling card, and allegedly, my rizz.

𝓒𝓪𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓴 𝓜𝓪𝓷𝓲𝓼 started as a zine about sweetness - about Indonesian market sweets, about beauty and gender and diaspora - but somewhere along the way it became evidence. Friends started putting photos of my pandan cake on their dating profiles. Strangers were getting recognised by it. I’m the type to show up to a date carrying a cake full of gluten and dairy without asking about dietary restrictions first. What is romance if not an exercise in risk.

The zine has 8 sweet Indonesian recipes and a lot of feelings.

Named after a beloved Indonesian sweet that translates directly to “pretty and sweet”, the zine moves through memory and recipe in equal measure, reflecting on sweetness as a narrative of beauty, gender, and the politics of perception.

Playful, flirtatious, and full of intention, what begins as a tribute to a childhood favourite opens into a wider meditation on visibility and voice. Traversing across nostalgia to exoticisation, food is positioned as a subject to articulating the complexity of being-in-between cultures, and contexts. 

It is also, unexpectedly, a book about dating. I wrote it the year I speedran 8 years of it lmao.
