The Jakarta trio’s debut album ‘Fleur Fleur FLEUR!’ mixes a ’60s retro rock sound with whimsical yet personal songwriting. They tell NME more.

When Indonesian all-girl group Dara Puspita were making a name for themselves as one of the country’s most badass rock acts throughout the ’60s and the ’70s, none of the members of FLEUR! had even been born yet.

But more than half a century later, Tanya Ditaputri, Yuyi Trirachma and Tika Pramesti are carrying on Dara Puspita’s legacy with fun, nostalgia-inducing rock’n’roll – best exemplified in their debut album, which was finally released last month after a two-year delay.

FLEUR! began as a quartet called Flower Girls, a Dara Puspita cover band assembled to perform at Europalia, an international arts festival that celebrates a particular country’s cultural heritage, hosted by Brussels in 2017.

It was a tricky proposition: Only two of the band’s four members had known each other previously, and they didn’t have much time to get acquainted with Dara Puspita’s extensive discography.

Singkat cerita...
Pada saat itu perjalanan "Kangen Band" terjegal karena banyaknya lagu ciptaannya tersebar luas melalui MP3 bajakan. Hingga akhirnya Kangen band di ajak oleh Harry Tasman untuk bernaung di bawah label Warner Music Indonesia dan mengeluarkan album yang berjudul TENTANG AKU, KAU, DAN DIA pada tahun 2007.

Album pertamanya ini masih menawarkan materi yang tidak neko-neko. Lagu-lagu seperti TENTANG BINTANG, SELINGKUH, PENANTIAN YANG TERTUNDA, JIKA, BIDADARI SURGAKU, MENUNGGU DAN PETUALANG CINTA.

The Indonesian singer-songwriter's first album in six years

Indonesian singer-songwriter Tulus has released his fourth studio album ‘Manusia’, six years after he released ‘Monokrom’. 

The album was released today (March 3) on major streaming platforms and includes the single ‘Tujuh Belas’, which Tulus released just a week ago on February 24. The album also features a long contributor’s list, including the returning services of producer Ari Renaldi.

Dere, Petra Sihombing, Topan Abimanyu, and Yoseph Sitompul are featured in the album’s credits as songwriters, and several songs contain string arrangements from the Budapest Scoring Symphony Orchestra, composed by Erwin Gutawa.

Shortly before the album made its way onto streaming platforms, Tulus took to social media to share that ‘Manusia’ will receive a physical release soon, although further details remain unknown at this time.

Tulus’ last studio album ‘Monokrom’ was released in 2016, following which the singer has largely stuck to releasing singles and collaborations with other artists. He last released the single ‘Ingkar’ in August 2021 following the single, ‘Adaptasi’ in 2020.

In 2019, he notably released a live album commemorating the end of the ‘Monokrom’ album cycle, ‘Langsung Dari Konser Monokrom Jakarta’, which featured his 21-track long setlist from his headlining show in Jakarta supporting the album.

While he has not released much music over the years following ‘Monokrom’, Tulus nonetheless ranked among the top five in Spotify’s list of most-streamed Indonesian artists of 2021 and clinched the title of the most-streamed Indonesian artist on Spotify in 2019.

The singer recently co-wrote the single ‘Rumah’ with longtime collaborator Dere, which was released in February 2021. The duo had previously worked together on the collaborative singles ‘Tanya’ and ‘Berisik’, released in February and July last year respectively.

Indonesian pop singer Stephanie Poetri has announced a new EP. ‘Oh To Be In Love’.

The 88rising act announced the news via an Instagram post on Thursday (March 3), confirming its release date of March 18. She also shared a snippet of the project’s lead single, ‘Bad Haircut’.

‘Bad Haircut’ will release alongside the EP, and will feature JVKE, per a press release. The track will reportedly see the two artists profess their devotion to their loved ones.

While it is currently unclear just how many songs will appear on ‘Oh To Be In Love’, two other tracks have been revealed via said press release. The EP will include a new cut, ‘Please Don’t Die Before I Do’, and the previously released single, ‘Picture Myself’.

Stephanie Poetri first released ‘Picture Myself’ in January, along with a music video in which Poetri explored New York on her own, even ripping into a heart-shaped pizza at one point.

Following its release, Poetri took to social media to share that ‘Picture Myself’ is the “first of many songs” that she will release this year “that feel like part of a sound that I could be making for the rest of my life”.

In September, Stephanie Poetri released an acoustic version of her EP, ‘AM:PM’ with an additional track, ‘Matamu (Acoustic)’, which she originally debuted on YouTube last year. ‘Matamu’ was originally recorded by her mother, T**i DJ. The original version of Poetri’s debut EP was released in March last year.

Bill Skarsgård, Samara Weaving and Yayan Ruhian will topline Boy Kills World, a revenge action fantasy film produced by Sam Raimi and Roy Lee.

First-time feature director Moritz Mohr is helming the project, which is being financed by Simon Swart and Wayne Fitzjohn of Nthibah Pictures (Redeeming Love) and Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios (Bill and Ted Face the Music).

Per the producers, who announced the project Thursday, World is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality. Boy is a deaf-mute with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, Boy escapes to the jungle and is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.”

“Boy Kills World is set in a distinct dystopian world, combining real-world themes with a stylized look that is fresh, cool and original, borrowing from the best of graphic novels,” said Nthibah Pictures CEO Simon Swart in a statement. “With a script that combines wild innovative action sequences, a sense of humor and a lot of crazy, this film has the potential to be a worldwide hit and potential franchise property.”

Skarsgård is best known for his scare work as Pennywise in the It movies, on which Lee was a producer. He is coming off of working on John Wick 4.
Weaving broke out with a starring turn in the horror movie Ready or Not and is currently shooting Damien Chazelle’s period drama Babylon with Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

Ruhian is the martial arts actor who broke out to American audiences with the bone-breaking The Raid movies and appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
