In Jakub JanovskĂœâs large-scale paintings, wooden building blocks â an unforgettable part of many of our childhoods â are presented in a new light. The artist enlarges these toys, which seem tiny in adult hands, to monumental proportions. The resulting structures tower over the viewer; with their layout reminiscent of real buildings, they echo the darker periods of the past centuryâs history. In JanovskĂœâs works, the traumatic and positive aspects of Central and Eastern European cultural heritage become palpable at the same time. His scenes, created with subtle painterly virtuosity, are at first glance covered by a gray layer; only with close attention does the powerful, inner vibration of the depicted objects become perceptible. According to the artist, he retains few memories of his own childhood; his family did not keep his old toys or clothes. In works such as Happy Rocket (2025) and TOFA (2025), JanovskĂœ repaints these missing objects and memories. His remaining toysâsuch as the colorful wooden blocks â become an integral part of everyday life once again through his playtime with his young son, Vincent.

Bede KincsĆ site-specific installation titled The Art of Pista (2019-2026) presents fragments of a family history through a display of the artistâs own works and her grandfatherâs handcrafted pieces. The black-and-white photo series, serving as a central element of the project, can now be viewed in a renewed form at the Torula exhibition space, following its appearance at last yearâs Off-Biennale. The photographs of the artist, her cousins, and her grandparentsâ objects do not have the explicit aim of creating a narrative. At the same time, through their strong internal cohesion, certain titles and works confront the viewer with a uniquely stylized story of childhood. This is reinforced by the color treatment of the works, which â according to the artist â contributes to the shaping and rewriting of his own memories by visually disrupting the various locations, materials, and themes. The photographs are always paired with the vivid wall and frame colors borrowed from the grandparentsâ house, evoking the garish appearance of the living environment that served as the actual setting for the scenes. This parallel becomes clear in the work Farewell to Grandma (2026), one of the exhibitionâs central pieces, through whose windows opening onto small, colorful rooms we gain a glimpse into the living environment of Bedeâs recently deceased grandmother.

Introducing the curators of đđđđđđ đđ đđđđą đ đđđ
Ăgnes Keszegh is a curator and cultural worker. Her curatorial practice is grounded in interdisciplinarity, postcolonial and feminist critique, and collaborative artistic processes. She believes that contemporary art can facilitate open and inclusive dialogue on issues of identity, memory, spirituality and cultural hybridity. To her, an exhibition is not only a space for representation, but also a platform for community building and critical thinking. She currently works as coordinator of the Artist Exchange Programme at the Budapest Gallery, as co-curator of the A:MAZE artist collective and as a happy member of the Falu Kollektive. She holds an MA in Curatorial Studies from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, and has gained professional experience in various artistic and institutional contexts in Hungary and Slovakia.
MĂĄrk RĂ©kai (b. 2002) is a curator, performer, and cultural worker currently studying Art History at Eötvös LorĂĄnd University in Budapest. Their curatorial practice is shaped by an engagement with mythological and historical narratives embedded within the collective unconscious. Conceived as relational situations, their exhibitions function as experimental sites where scholarly methodologies intersect with intuitive artistic processes and participatory forms of knowledge production. Their research focuses, among other subjects, on the contemporary deployment of folkloric symbolic systems and the oeuvre of SyrianâHungarian artist RĂłza El-Hassan.
Alongside exhibitions and performative actions, they initiate and develop participatory cultural projects aimed at critically reconsidering dominant social structures. Central to their practice is the exploration of collective, egalitarian, and ecologically sustainable forms of coexistence, approached as potential frameworks for future communal life.
Currently working between Budapest and Paris on independent projects, they are also involved in organising knowledge-sharing and community-based events as a member of the Falu Collective.
