Wangsim is pleased to present Black n White, an online
exhibition on view throughout summer 2026. Opening on August 8th, the group display includes work by Pierre Alechinsky, Georg Baselitz, Günther Förg, Zenzaburo Kojima, Takesada Matsutani, Kazuo Shiraga, Sofu Teshigahara, and Jiro Yoshihara, presenting a conversation between Eastern and Western postwar artists who—intrigued by the aesthetic, conceptual and psychological effect of the absence of colour, explore the oldest theme in the art history: monochrome paintings (and drawings).
-
In true transparency and honesty, these works reveal how black and white works in art can redefine perceptual and formal possibilities, examining how artists have employed seriality, variation, and accumulation to destabilize conventional patterns of light, space and thought.

In 1150, court painter Su Hanchen of Song Dynasty created “Children Playing in an Autumn Garden”, which depicts two children—a girl and a younger boy—playing within a palace garden. Both children, with expensive clothing and ornaments, against an abundance of toys and blooming flowers, seem utterly absorbed in the jujube fruits spinning game. The delightful painting is often described as emblematic of a shift in Chinese art, where people other than wealthy Chinese men were allowed to “take centre stage in the world of art and are presented to us as fully individualized human beings”.
-
Could Su have known a study of the painting, continues to celebrate the purest form of joy human beings (perhaps—several centuries later—more socially and technological advanced) created simply by playing? With brilliant gongbi brushwork and delicate colour scheme, artist Leung Lai-man strips away the exuberant garden scenery and focuses on the children’s delightful attentiveness and playfulness in Study of “Children Playing in a Garden in Autumn (detail)”. The work invites the viewer to experience the pure, innocent happiness captured through total immersion in the present moment.
-
Visit work as part of “Pure Delights”, Leung Lai-man’s solo exhibition .sushi.hk, through September 4th. Join us to view the presentation with superb Gongbi techniques, and the artist’s gift of turning absent histories to present focus.

In her new canvas “He is Still on His Way” (2025), Hong Kong artist Ngai Wing-Lam reimagines the Koi-fish headed character in a world of beautiful muted colours, with its aquamarine blues and greens. Always fascinated by the world of dream, and her pet fish’s dynamism of dream-like swimming, Ngai lends the characters meticulously structured bodies of a horse, offering a new-found sense of stillness and invite the viewer to revisit the concept of time.
-
Visit work as part of “In Reality”, Ngai Wing-Lam solo exhibition .sushi.hk, through April 10th.

Currently on view .sushi.hk is a suite of most recent canvases and works on by paper by Hong Kong artist Ngai Wing Lam ( ).

Channelling the antic spirit of Surrealism with a series of paintings depicting “Fish Man” and “Fish Woman” against landscapes of the metropolis, locally born and trained Lam’s work borrows from the physical world and inevitably mirrors the everyday life and thoughts of Hong Kong people.
-
Lam studied at the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University. The artist has presented several solo exhibitions in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her works have also been involved in group exhibitions with Tai Kwun Contemporary, Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, and WWF For Nature Hong Kong. In 2025, Lam was shortlisted for 2025 Sovereign Asian Art Prize.
-
Join us to visit the world of “Fish Man” and “Fish Woman” with beautifully muted colors and ultimately gentle sensibility. A reception was organized on Feb 13th, 4-6pm to celebrate the collaboration.

Wangsim is pleased to announce the opening of Wang Yi’s solo exhibition at the Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou, titled The Shape Salon, to celebrate the reopening of the hotel’s 4th floor dinning space—now TANG, a magnificent new restaurant doubled up as a gallery space.
