“Everything I choose to shoot is about giving myself permission in the moment. Even if I do plan something, it never works out the way I envision it. It always takes me in a different direction.”
For artist Jonė Reed, photography begins with paying attention. Born in Lithuania and now based in London, her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between the landscapes of her childhood and the life she has built today. Her practice is guided by instinct, allowing everyday encounters to take on new meaning.
During her recent House of Shila. residency at Mona. and Shila., Jone’s lens meditates on the city’s changing light, two pigeons on a balcony, and a room she couldn’t bring herself to leave. The kind of moments that gently shift the way we look.

“The hotel room is a highly charged internal landscape. It brings to the surface qualities or emotions I didn’t know I had.”
Greek novelist Amanda Michalopoulou (.michalopoulou) joined House of Shila. for a writing residency between Mona. and Shila. while working on a literary guide to Athens commissioned by French publishing house L’arbre qui marche (Suivez l'arbre qui marche il sait où il va).
Reimagining Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs. Dalloway”, Amanda wandered through the city’s streets, hotels, and neighbourhoods, allowing architecture, memory, and passing encounters to shape the inner lives of her characters. In this conversation, she reflects on writing as play, Athens as a layered landscape, and the enduring need for stories that allow us to make sense of the world.
