We are really excited to announce our opening speakers for both days of the Greenland Science Conference 2025! 🎉
Day 1 will begin with an opening speech by Naalakkersuisoq Vivian Motzfeldt. As the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Research in the Greenlandic government, Vivian Motzfeldt will be able to provide some political context to the importance of scientific research in Greenlandic society. 🌍
Day 2 will start with an opening speech by Mari Kleist, Chariman of the Greenland Research Council and Pro Rector of Ilisimatusarfik, University of Greenland. We’re looking forward to having Mari Kleist reflect on the importance of collaboration between research, education, and society in shaping Greenland’s future. 🇬🇱
We look forward to welcoming them both and having them set the scene for the conference next week!

With less than two weeks to go until the Greenland Science Week Conference 2025, it’s time to introduce our final keynote speaker! ✨
Professor Marit Eika Jørgensen is Professor and Senior Physician at Ilisimatusarfik’s Institute of Health & Nature as well as Director at the Steno Diabetes Center in Greenland. A specialist in endocrinology, she has worked extensively on researching diabetes among the Greenlandic Inuit population. In her talk “Genetics and Physiology in Isolated Populations”, she will discuss how diabetes behaves differently in Greenland compared to the rest of the world, and how the first large-scale genetic mapping in Greenland has helped guide the treatment and prevention of diabetes among Greenlanders. 🧬
Remember that you can explore the conference program as well as the other events happening around Greenland during the science week on our website!
