DeSMAS in collaboration with the University of California Education Abroad Programme (UCEAP) held their annual health care programme for women in Tema Newtown; a rural-urban community in Ghana's premier port city Tema.
With the help of students and health professionals, discussions on breast care, diabetes, hypertension among other health concerns were held.
Women were educated on the early signs of these diseases and advised to report to health care facilities immediately they saw any signs. Over 250 women benefited from free health screening. Some were referred to health facilities for professional attention and others on how to properly manage their conditions and adherence to their medications.
