MPOBB Hosts Its Inaugural Webinar on Legal Rights in Marriage Under Ghanaian Law

On 11 March 2026, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners (MPOBB) hosted the inaugural edition of the MPOBB Academy Webinar Series, bringing together over 1,000 participants for an engaging discussion on “When Love Meets Property: Legal Rights in Marriage Under Ghanaian Law.”

The webinar featured distinguished speakers, including Justice Alexander Osei-Tutu, Justice of the Court of Appeal of Ghana; Sheila Minkah-Premo, Managing Partner of Apex Law Consult and President of the GBA Women’s Forum; and William Sannaise-Mensah, Head of Family & Estate Planning at MPOBB.

Discussions covered key issues, including marriage under Ghanaian law, property ownership within marriage, division of property during divorce, inheritance, and practical strategies for protecting family assets.

The strong engagement from participants highlighted the growing public interest in understanding the legal implications of marriage and property rights in Ghana.

The Land, Construction, and Real Estate Team at Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners contributed to the Ghana Edition of the February Issue of The Legal Industry Reviews.

The team explored the topic, “Beyond Act 1047: Ghana’s Real Estate Paradox – Strong Framework, Little Impact.”

Maame Abenaa Fosu, Senior Associate and Head of Land, Construction, and Real Estate, and Justice Minkah Oppong share insights on how Ghana’s Real Estate Agency Act, 2020 (Act 1047), establishes a strong framework for Ghana’s vital real estate sector. However, they note that weak implementation allows abuses and poor consumer protection to persist. They recommend full licensing of practitioners, a robust customer due diligence database, and the elimination of cash transactions to ensure the law’s effectiveness.
