China’s leading electric vehicle maker BYD has launched the world’s largest car carrier, designed to transport up to 9,200 vehicles across oceans. Named the BYD Shenzhen, the massive vessel spans nearly 220 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width, with 16 decks stacked for optimal car loading.
But size isn’t its only standout feature. Built by a shipyard under China Merchants Group, the BYD Shenzhen is packed with dual-fuel LNG propulsion, battery hybrid systems, and shore power tech that enables zero-emission port operations. It also includes energy-saving devices, anti-fouling paint, and advanced emission controls like SCR and EGR systems to meet strict global environmental standards.
This marks BYD’s fourth super-large car carrier, joining the ranks of the Explorer No. 1, Hefei, and Changzhou. Its launch supports BYD’s expanding international strategy as it ships new energy vehicles (NEVs) to over 100 countries and 400 cities worldwide.
The Shenzhen will soon embark on its maiden voyage, reportedly bound for Brazil, enhancing BYD’s export logistics with faster deliveries and lower carbon footprints.
