Metaform

June 4-5, Metaform team presented the publication accompanied with exhibition of the research-Critical Analysis of Georgian Architecture.
The visitors had the opportunity to see again the student's works, through the exhibited boards and book itself.
The workshop was held in the frames of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial 2020 and focused on close reading and formal analyses of 9 outstanding examples of soviet-modernist architecture in Tbilisi.
Selected buildings have been analyzed through a collaboration of local and international students and with the guidance of tutors from different countries. The working process has been enriched by the lecture series from 9 international architects, architectural theorists, and artists from various professional and cultural backgrounds.
Workshop outputs have demonstrated totally new perspectives of the analyzed buildings and have gained new knowledge of the common professional memory and intellect.
The process and the final review of the analysis were followed by intensive dialogues between the participants and jury members. The discussions displayed that the analyzed buildings represent not only a local phenomenon, but each of the authors had a dialogue with the global architectural processes of that time.
The main idea of the publication is to materialize this accumulated knowledge in the final book in which you will have a chance to see unique archival drawings of 20th-century architectural heritage and completely novel visions and analyses developed by the students.

The project was realized in cooperation with the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation.
Tbilisi Architecture Biennial was realized with the support of the Creative Europe Program of the European Union.
