For centuries, mermaids have captured the imagination of artists, writers, and explorers alike.

John William Waterhouse RA was drawn to the sinister side of mermaid mythology, depicting a siren who lures sailors to their deaths through her captivating song.

In his 1900 painting, A Mermaid, Waterhouse’s siren sits alone in an isolated inlet, dreamily combing out her long hair with her lips parted in song.

Beside her is a shell filled with pearls, which some believed to be formed from the tears of dead sailors.

Let’s have some conversation about your non-studio work as an artist! This is part of our Art House Evening series where we offer shared experiences that aren’t quite classes but intentional time we can benefit from as creatives! Thursday this week we’ll talk about all the professional things we need to pay attention to beyond creating artwork!

We will be taking a break from our life drawing sessions in March as we do some renovations and prepare for something exciting in April!

These once a month events will be a “catch-all” for a lot of “in between” things for our art environment. Conversations, talks, and connection beyond the excitement of an opening or the focus of a class. We look forward to sharing our space with you for this additional way to learn and grow as a community!
