Good news from Laura Hadland regarding The Old Stag's Head on Penn Common 🍻🍛

Thanks to Dale for flagging a good news story for me today. The former Old Stags Head in Penn, Wolverhampton is set to re-open in September as a desi pub.

It originally closed in 2018 and was earmarked for conversion into housing. Happily, campaigning by locals in the Penn Residents Association prevented this from happening and now the beer house, which dates back to 1834, will get a new lease of life.

Full story in the Express and Star, linked in the comments below. I haven't got a photo of the Old Stags Head, for obvious reason, so here's a picture of the tasty mixed grill at The Hop and Vine for illustrative purposes.

Wolverhampton pub could re-open alongside new supermarket 11/08/2026

A little pub news from the old Berry Brook Farm aka the New Pear Tree

Wolverhampton pub could re-open alongside new supermarket The plans say opening the new convenience store would help with the renovation of the once popular but now empty pub, which closed in 2024, into a “modern gastropub.”

Anyone who has visited will know, it's very well deserved.
