Real job. Real fix. πŸ”

DL night latch fitted to a shutter door for a more secure, reliable lock setup.

Because the right lock only works properly when it’s fitted properly.

Positioning matters.
Alignment matters.
Operation matters. πŸ› οΈ

A shutter door needs the right lock for the job. πŸ”

For this real job, a DL night latch was fitted to give the door a proper, reliable locking point.

With shutter doors, correct positioning matters.
The lock, latch and keep all need to line up properly so the door can close, lock and operate as it should.

It’s not just about fitting a lock.
It’s about fitting the right lock properly. πŸ› οΈ

Your home can look secure at first glance. πŸ”

A lock that turns.
A window that closes.
A camera that records.

But β€œworking” doesn’t always mean your home is properly protected.

A stiff handle, worn mechanism, loose lock, misted glass panel, tired frame or overlooked access point can all affect the security of your property.

The good news? Not every issue needs a full replacement.

In many cases, doors, windows and glass can be repaired, adjusted or restored before the problem becomes bigger - helping you save money while improving your home’s security.

Small faults are worth checking early.

πŸ‘€ Would you know who's outside your home right now?

Most people think CCTV is there to tell them what happened.

But good CCTV can do something far more valuable.

It can tell you what's happening.

Awareness matters.

Because if someone can approach your property unnoticed, they have time to look around, assess weaknesses and decide whether your home is worth the risk.

That's why CCTV isn't just about recording incidents.

It's about improving visibility around your property before a situation becomes a problem.

πŸ’‘ Prevention starts with knowing what's happening around your home - not finding out afterwards.

πŸ” Not every lock upgrade is a simple replacement.

This job required a full euro mortice retrofit, along with new handles, to bring the door up to the required standard.

What looks like a straightforward lock upgrade from the outside often involves much more behind the scenes.

Before any new hardware could be fitted, the existing setup had to be assessed to ensure the lock case, cylinder position and handles would all work together correctly.

Once the retrofit work was completed, new euro-compatible hardware and handles were installed, followed by thorough testing to make sure the lock, latch and cylinder operated smoothly.

πŸ’‘ A good lock upgrade isn't just about how it looks.

It's about making sure every component works together properly to provide reliable day-to-day security.

πŸ“Ή Choosing the right CCTV system isn't as simple as picking the one with the most cameras.

Or the highest specification.

Or the biggest package.

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is assuming that more equipment automatically means better protection.

The reality is that the best CCTV system is the one that suits your property.

A good system should be:
βœ” Easy to use
βœ” Easy to access
βœ” Clear day and night
βœ” Positioned correctly
βœ” Focused on the areas that matter most

Because CCTV isn't there to impress people.

It's there to help protect your home.

The strongest setups are built around how someone would actually approach the property, where the vulnerabilities are, and what you need to see if something happens.

πŸ’‘ Good security isn't about having more cameras.

It's about having the right cameras in the right places.

πŸ“Ή 4MP vs 8MP CCTV β€” what do you actually need?

It’s easy to assume that a higher number automatically means better security.

But CCTV isn’t just about megapixels.

It’s about what you need to see, how clearly you need to see it, where the cameras are positioned, and how you’ll be viewing the footage.

For many homes, a good 4MP CCTV system can provide clear, useful footage for everyday property monitoring. 8MP can offer enhanced detail, but it also needs to make sense for the property, the setup, and the way the system will be used.

πŸ’‘ The real question isn’t always:

β€œWhich camera has the highest spec?”

It’s:

β€œWhich system gives you the right view, the right clarity, and the right protection?”

That’s where proper advice matters.

πŸ“Ή A visible CCTV camera doesn't automatically mean effective CCTV coverage.

One of the most common mistakes we see is cameras being installed where they look logical, rather than where they provide the most protection.

A camera can be mounted above a door, high on a wall, or overlooking a driveway and still miss important areas around the property.

That's because security doesn't start at the front door.

It starts where someone approaches the property.

Side paths.
Rear access.
Blind spots.
Garden entry points.

These are often the areas that deserve the most attention.

πŸ’‘ Good CCTV placement isn't about seeing the most space.

It's about seeing the right space.

πŸ” Sometimes the problem isn't the glass.

From the outside, this window looked relatively normal. But the mechanism responsible for opening, closing and securing the window was no longer functioning properly.

That's an important reminder that many window issues aren't immediately visible.

A window doesn't just need to open.

It needs to close correctly.
Lock correctly.
And sit properly within the frame to provide the security it's designed for.

In this case, two window mechanisms needed replacing to restore proper operation.

The repair involved more than simply swapping parts. The damaged mechanisms were removed, replacements installed, and the window checked to ensure it was operating smoothly and securely again.

πŸ’‘ Good repairs aren't just about how something looks.

They're about restoring how it's supposed to work.

πŸ“Ή Most people think CCTV is there to tell you what happened after an incident.

To identify someone.
To review footage.
To piece together the events.
But effective CCTV should start working long before that.

Visible cameras can influence behaviour, reduce opportunities, and make a property a less appealing target. When combined with good locks, lighting, alarms, and secure entry points, CCTV becomes part of a much bigger security strategy. πŸ”

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is homeowners relying on cameras alone.

CCTV is valuable.

But it won't strengthen a weak door.
It won't fix a vulnerable window.
And it won't replace good physical security.

The strongest protection comes from layers working together.

That's why we always encourage homeowners to look at the bigger picture rather than a single security product.

πŸ’‘ Security isn't just about recording incidents.
It's about helping to prevent them.
