As we look back on another school year, we are delighted by the difference our programme has made for children learning to read.
Feedback from 60 of our partner schools shows 100% reported an improvement in reading outcomes and pupil confidence. We are incredibly grateful to the teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders who have worked with us to help more children develop the reading skills they need to succeed.
Thank you to every school that has shared their feedback and supported our work.
If you are a Berkshire primary school looking to strengthen reading support for your pupils, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch to find out how we can work together to help more children become confident readers this academic year. [email protected]

As part of our annual review, we analysed the characteristics of the children supported by ABC to read during the academic year. The findings demonstrate that we continue to reach children facing a wide range of additional challenges, including special educational needs, disadvantage and English as an additional language.

Even on holiday, books are never far away!
One of our team, Claire, recently visited the world's oldest bookshop while away. It is a lovely reminder that a love of books connects people across generations and cultures.
Whether it's a centuries-old bookshop or a local library, every place that celebrates reading helps inspire the next generation of readers.
We hope you're finding time for a good book this summer too!

We are looking for more schools across Berkshire to partner with us, so we can support even more children who need that extra boost with their reading.
We are also looking for more amazing volunteers to join our team. You don’t need to be a teacher — just a patient, friendly person who enjoys helping children discover the joy of reading.
Could you help us change a child’s reading story? 📖💜

We're delighted to share that ABC to read has been awarded a grant through the Wokingham United Charities Thrive Grant Programme.
This generous support will help us continue providing one-to-one reading support for children who are struggling to read, giving them the confidence and skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond as well as delivering literacy workshops in the Wokingham Borough.
We are very grateful to Wokingham United Charities and their Grants Committee for their continued confidence in our work.

Every child we support has their own reading journey. Sometimes the biggest changes aren't measured in reading levels, but in confidence, enthusiasm and the smile that comes with opening a book.
These are the moments that inspire our volunteers every day.
If your school has children who would benefit from regular one-to-one reading support, get in touch to find out how ABC to read can help. We're proud to be the only Berkshire charity providing this award-winning, comprehensive reading support to schools across the county. [email protected]
