Today we are honoured to attend the Unsung Heroes of Berkshire Garden Party hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire.
The event celebrates volunteers and community organisations making a difference across Berkshire, and we are proud to represent ABC to read alongside so many inspiring people dedicated to supporting local communities.
Thank you to everyone who supports our work and helps children across Berkshire build confidence through reading.

We look forward to this workshop today ready for Empathy Day this week! Empathy helps children feel seen, heard and understood — and that can make all the difference to their learning and confidence. Thank you to all our volunteers for bringing empathy into schools every week and helping children across Berkshire discover the joy of reading.

Today is World Ocean Day and a chance to think about how important the oceans are to our earth. We're so lucky that there is a wealth of wonderful books to celebrate our blue planet.

Just 10% of children who fall behind in reading at primary school go on to achieve passes in both English and Maths GCSEs.
Early support can make a lasting difference.
At ABC to read, our trained volunteers work one-to-one with children in Berkshire primary schools, helping them build confidence, improve their reading skills and discover the enjoyment that books can bring.
Every week, volunteers give their time to support children who are struggling with reading, helping them develop the literacy skills they need to succeed both in school and later in life.
But the need for support continues to grow. More schools are asking for our help, and we need more volunteers to ensure that every child who needs support can receive it.
If you can spare a few hours each week, you could help change a child's story.

To finish a wonderful week celebrating all of our amazing volunteers, we asked our current volunteers why they chose to volunteer with ABC to read!
This another in our series of why our volunteers have chosen to volunteer, we are so lucky to work with such amazing individuals who bring so much passion to their sessions.
Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our charity. We asked them why they chose to volunteer, and their answers were as varied as they were inspiring.
