The Mlondozi Picnic Site should be on everyone’s itinerary to visit. Perfect spot to stretch your legs after the perfect golden light in the morning has finished. The views of Mlondozi dam are breathtaking. The hippos were in residence when we visited. The site is well maintained with clean picnic tables and bathrooms. In 2026 you can rent a Cadac gas canister and skottle braai for R50, cook yourself some brunch.

Thank you KNP Lower Sabie!
Not a happy camper! Bats are nesting above the bed! Squeaking and pooping! Crocodile Bridge accommodation was sooo much better!
Early mornings are special in the bush. Bird song, fresh smelling air and the promise a sunrise gives.
Coffee lovers …. Second cup of the day and what a magnificent view! We did get a bit hot, it’s 25 degrees and sunny, not bad for winter in June.
A simple thing, done exceptionally well. This chicken shawarma is slow-grilled, deeply spiced, then finished in shallow clay pans gas-lit from underneath. Instead of reheating the bread on metal or in an oven, the flatbread is pressed directly into the hot clay, where it toasts gently, picking up texture, heat, and a subtle earthiness you don’t get any other way. This method isn’t common across the Middle East. It reflects Tunisia’s long tradition of cooking with clay from tabouna bread ovens to earthenware tajines where heat is absorbed, held, and released more softly than steel. The result is bread that’s toasted, not scorched, and shawarma that feels balanced rather than rushed.Garlic sauce, crunch, a touch of heat. Nothing excessive, nothing missing. , Tunisia. This is why we travel .
