With the unprecedented heat the UK is experiencing, trusty fridge and a/c engineers become the fifth (?) emergency service.
They are in high demand, waiting times are long and they may be a little hot and bothered when they do finally reach you. Especially if the issue was preventable.
This costs you money, them time and your business issues.
Here are our top tips on preventing unnecessary equipment issues, prolonging your fridges life, saving stock and your hard earnt cash! We've also made some final suggestions of things you should check before calling an engineer, just in case its something simple!
1 - Air
Without air, your fridge can't breathe. A struggling air intake (or output) can over work the unit, resulting in compressor failure. Anything which looks like a grill, must stay clear of dust and debris. Give them a brush (or a hoover) regularly to keep them free of blockages and build up. This also goes for remote condensing units (big boxes with fans on them, likely to be outside on a roof or wall) so perhaps give them a check too?
2 - Water
Through the refrigeration process, water is created. Where does it go? It may be pumped out of the shop, it may be in trays beneath your equipment. It may even self evaporate. Whatever the answer, these water ways need to be kept clear and clean. If you don't know where or what they are, give us a shout and we'll happily help.
3 - Dirt
The enemy. Not nice to see, worse to smell if it's food related and hangs about uncleaned. Check under all deck plates (the display bed) for any liquid or solid detritus and give them a clean. Drain trays, lighting, pipes, coils and vents all need keeping clear of any blockages. Take off the back panels and have a vacuum about. Check any remote units aren't covered in leaves, birds nests or brambles. Not only do your customers notice, but so will your EHO. Keep it clean.
With just a few simple checks and a quick vacuum, you could prevent break downs - especially as thing get warmer and you rely more on your fridges.
4 - Other Areas to consider checking before picking up the phone
* Have you turned it off and on again? (obvious but always worth trying!)
* Are the products overstocked, blocking the air vents in the fridge?
* Is there a draught or a/c unit blowing into the fridge display area?
* Check any external condensing units for blockages
* Have you recently turned the unit off over night to allow for any ice build up to melt?
* Are any door seals broken, perished or fallen off meaning the doors isn't sealed properly?
* Are all fans which you can see or hear working?
* Check electrical trip switches are all on and the unit has power
* Has the unit recently been stocked with fresh produce, the door been left open or its just been switched on?

Taylors Farm Shop
Taylors Farm has been with the family for over 100 years and have recently refit their expanded farm shop, just outside Ormskirk, Lancashire. Starting as a butchery on the kitchen table in 2003, the shop expanded in numerous extensions over the last 19 years. The Taylors team rear their own cattle on their own cereals grown on the farm which ensures the excellent quality of livestock.
In 2015 and 2017 they won a National Farm Shop of the year competition through Meat Management which is a testament to their dedication and knowledge of their craft. Being farmers, the team are passionate about locally sourced produce and support the local economy as one of the largest employers in the immediate area. Championing Lancashire produce, they proudly stock Wild Fox Gin, Lancashire Crisps, Mrs Dowson Ice Cream, Dewlays Cheese, Latham’s of Broughton and many other local names.
Taylor’s initial vegetable-selling roots is highlighted by the newly revamped veg shop with a huge new multideck (Criocabin Encore) and bespoke angled display units. This flash of colour is a real eye catcher as soon as you walk in the door.
With a vast butchers counter supporting the on site butchery, the butchers now have a large meat display (Criocabin Genesis) behind the counter (a bespoke Criocabin Elfin and Enixe arrangement on pedestal legs) which houses anything from large joints to specially dipped steaks ready for the pan. Around the corner from the large butchery multideck (Criocabin Encores) lies a huge deli (Criocabin Elfins) with a wide variety of pies and other baked goods, all fresh from the kitchen. Knowing their customers needs, Taylors have grown their freezer capacity (Oscartielle Brioni) to broaden their offering of frozen pies, meals and meats. All of this is highlighted expertly with Imoon lighting and beautifully stocked ambient gondolas.
There is also a take away coffee and sandwich bar which offers hot and cold takeaway food, coffee and pies. Fresh bread, wines, baked goods and heaps of other goodies are all available.
