Resilience // Determination // Spirit

That sums up today’s grading.

First off, a huge congratulations to Henry, our new black belt. What a performance today after falling short last time. His attitude is exactly what we look for in a black belt. Rise to the challenge, do the work, come back stronger. To come back and pass it with zero doubt from the panel is excellent and I’m so proud.

The same goes to Euan, Louise and Cammy who all had an exceptional grading today earning 1st Dan (Euan) and 3rd Dan (Louise and Cammy) - well deserved all round.

In the KYU grading, we had a great set of results. Some tough grades earned with a good pass.
A special mention to Emme who came back from two knock backs previously and passed her brown belt today. A great example of hard work paying off.

More success from today:
- Edward promoted to Orange Belt
- Imke smashed her yellow belt
- Skye had a great performance to earn purple belt
- Harriet got a great pass for purple & white belt
- Emma and Hannah getting a good pass for brown and white belt was great to see.

We hold a super high standard at Shotokan 2000 so these grades are not easy to obtain, to see everyone step up to the challenge and not just pass, but absolutely smash it made me so proud. What a team, what an association, what a day!

Yesterday Bob and I took the opportunity to train with top MMA coach James Doolan, at a session hosted by my Jujitsu club in Glenrothes.

James covered some good BJJ escapes from mount and side control - super useful stuff and a good reminder of basics for me.

I’ve trained BJJ for a while now and also hold a 3rd Degree black belt in Japanese Jujitsu. Mixing things up is super important for me as a karate instructor. Martial arts should be explored at all angles to gain a full understanding. Both BJJ and Jujitsu fill in gaps that karate can sometimes leave so studying these compliments my teaching and ultimately makes me a better instructor.

Back to the karate tonight in Cupar 👊🏻

‼️Celebrating birthdays‼️

Yesterday in the advanced class we celebrated my 40th by doing the Dan Grade stamina combination 40 times. 💪🏻

It was also Brandon’s 9️⃣th birthday so we did 🔟 press ups for every year… it was after that that Skye reminded me we hadn’t yet celebrated her 8️⃣th birthday so of course we ended up doing 1️⃣7️⃣0️⃣ press ups.

A short clip of just a couple of the stamina combos.

‼️PERTH! We’re back on Thursday!‼️
We have space on the mats for a few new starts so if you’ve been thinking of joining or want to try something new, now is your chance!

🗓️ On Saturday we have our dedicated beginners class too which is the perfect starting point for anyone’s martial arts journey 🥋

Change your life in 2026!

🥋I started karate as a shy kid around 33 years ago, confidence was non-existent and the thought of going to anything like a karate class was daunting.

👊🏻That quickly changed and karate gave me huge confidence levels, discipline and belief that I can do whatever I want in life. It’s lead to successful career paths away from the sport, self discipline and an unbelievable stubbornness to succeed and resilience levels to deal with anything life throws at me.

Now approaching my 40th birthday, I’m in the best shape of my life, mentally and physically, I hold not only a 5th degree karate belt (ridiculous at my age) but a 3rd degree Jujitsu black belt and a BJJ blue belt. All because I walked into a karate class all those years ago.

Do yourself and your kids a huge favour, sign up to a martial art and give it a go. It might just change your life. We have spaces for new starts so now is the perfect time. Get in touch 💪🏻
