The Scottish ADHD Coalition is aware of the concerns being raised regarding Channel 4s forthcoming documentary on ADHD and is currently reserving judgement until the programme has been broadcast.

ADHD-scepticism is nothing new and it is unlikely that the programme will add any fresh insights to the existing counter-culture that has emerged, despite robust to the contrary. We note the use or a pejorative title (connecting ADHD to the word "myth"), and the lack of any mainstream neurodevelopment medical professional within the publicity for the programme.

Whilst the Coalition believes that challenging orthodoxy can be part of a very healthy discourse on how we might best understand and treat conditions such as ADHD, polarisation does not always further the development of inclusive approaches to the improvement of lives for those affected by the condition, many of whom are severely disadvantaged by societal discrimination and have poor health outcomes.

The Coalition's position is to await the broadcast of the programme before commenting further. Whilst we have concerns, we hope that the programme is balanced, accurate, and fact-based, and does not materially mislead the audience, in accordance with its broadcasting remit.
