Following reports earlier this week of a large group of people jumping into the River Trent at Beeston Weir, we would like to remind members of the public on the dangers of open water.
Natasha Neale, Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager said: "While rivers such as the Trent can look appealing during periods of hot weather, the water is often much colder than people realise. Entering cold water suddenly can trigger cold water shock, making it difficult to breathe or swim and causing even confident swimmers to get into difficulty very quickly.
"At locations such as weirs, there are additional hidden dangers beneath the surface, including strong currents, sudden changes in depth, submerged objects and other hazards that can put lives at risk.
"If you see somebody struggling in the water, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service. If possible, provide your location using what3words or nearby landmarks, encourage the person to float on their back, and never enter the water yourself. "

The team are travelling back to Nottinghamshire today following three intense days of competition at GRIMPday in Belgium 🇧🇪
Over three days, our team tackled twelve challenging scenarios across some incredible locations in and around Namur, testing our technical skills, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure.
We finished 23rd out of 24 teams. While the result isn’t where we’d like to be, GRIMPday is all about learning from the best, challenging ourselves, and identifying opportunities to improve. We’ve come away with valuable lessons, new ideas, and a clear understanding of where we need to focus our efforts.
A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and fellow competitors for an outstanding event. As our team heads home, we’re looking forward to taking these lessons back with us and putting them into practice.
