Our incredible team have delivered a "No Recourse, No Safety: Understanding Immigration Status, NRPF and Safeguarding BME Victim-Survivors of Abuse" to professionals in the North Yorkshire area through teams.
Aaliyah talked about Honour-based abuse, cultural harms, the Halo Project and the support we provide and how someone's immigration status shouldn't override a person's safety.
We are committed to raising awareness of this very important matter and how professionals can support this by recognising the risks and informing us, so we can implement the right help.
Thank you for everyone who attended and for our team for delivering an amazing training. π

We are incredibly proud to share that our Founder and CEO, Yasmin Khan, has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List for services to ending domestic abuse and violence against women.
This honour recognises more than two decades of tireless advocacy, campaigning, system change, and frontline support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, forced marriage, female ge***al mutilation, and honour-based abuse.
From founding Halo Project to influencing national policy, establishing pioneering services, and championing the voices of Black and minoritised survivors, Yasmin has dedicated her career to creating safer futures for women and girls.
Reflecting on the award, Yasmin said:
"I accept it on behalf of every survivor who has trusted me with their story, and every colleague, volunteer and campaigner who has stood alongside me over the past twenty-five years."
This recognition belongs not only to Yasmin, but to every survivor whose courage has driven change, every partner who has stood alongside us, and every member of the Halo family who continues to work towards a future free from abuse.
Please join us in congratulating Yasmin on this incredibly well-deserved achievement.

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of attending the Durham Trashion Show, a fantastic event that brought creativity, community, and purpose together.
The event showcased incredible designs created from recycled and sustainable materials, highlighting the power of innovation and environmental awareness while supporting an important cause.
We are incredibly grateful that all funds raised from the event were donated to Halo Project. Every contribution helps us continue supporting women and girls affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, FGM, and other hidden harms.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising, participating in, and supporting the event. Your generosity and commitment will help us continue making a difference to the lives of survivors.
π Thank you for supporting Halo Project.

Did you know?
Honour-based abuse is not always physical.
Many survivors experience:
β’ Constant monitoring
β’ Restricted movement
β’ Control over friendships or relationships
β’ Isolation from support
β’ Threats linked to family βhonourβ
These behaviours are forms of abuse and control.
Recognising hidden harm early can help prevent escalation and protect lives.

Yesterday we attended the Celebration Reception at the House of Lords to mark a historic milestone: the achievement of a statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse.
This moment represents years of campaigning, advocacy, survivor voices, and partnership working across the sector. It is a significant step forward in improving recognition, safeguarding, and protection for those affected by Honour-Based Abuse.
Halo has been proud to play a role in this journey, working alongside survivors, specialist organisations, campaigners, and partners to push for change and ensure Honour-Based Abuse is recognised for the distinct form of abuse that it is.
As we gather with colleagues, advocates, and supporters from across the country, we celebrated how far we have come while recognising the work that still lies ahead.
Together, we got the definition through the door.

A significant milestone in the fight against Honour-Based Abuse.
On Friday, our CEO, Yasmin Khan, attended and helped launch the new Midlands and North East Partnership Network at a celebration event marking the introduction of the new statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse.
The collaboration between Halo Project and Roshni has been built over many years. Together, we have shared expertise, supported one another through challenges, contributed evidence to national inquiries, and worked alongside survivors and partners to push for meaningful change.
This new partnership formalises that longstanding relationship, creating an even stronger platform for collaboration, learning, advocacy, and collective action across regions.
The event celebrated a landmark achievement for the sector: the introduction of a statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse. This progress reflects years of campaigning, advocacy, and determination from survivors, specialist organisations, activists, and allies who refused to let this issue remain hidden.
The theme of the day was "Through The Door" - a reminder that together, we got the definition through the door.
While there is still much work ahead, this moment represents an important step towards greater recognition, stronger safeguarding, and better outcomes for victims and survivors of Honour-Based Abuse.
Thank you to Roshni and all the organisations, survivors, and campaigners who have helped make this change possible.

Honour-based abuse can be difficult to identify because it is often hidden behind family expectations, community pressure, and controlling behaviour.
Many victims experience abuse long before they recognise what is happening or feel able to seek help.
Some warning signs can include isolation, excessive control, fear of family consequences, pressure around marriage, and sudden changes in behaviour.
Understanding these indicators is important for friends, family members, educators, healthcare professionals, and anyone working with vulnerable individuals.
Recognising risk early can help prevent escalation and protect those at risk of significant harm.
Honour-based abuse is never about honour. It is abuse.
If you are worried about yourself or someone else, support is available.

Did you know?
Many survivors of honour-based abuse stay silent because they fear:
β’ Bringing shame on their family
β’ Community judgement
β’ Losing support networks
β’ Not being believed
β’ Escalation of abuse or violence
These fears can stop people from seeking help for years.
No one should have to choose between their safety and their community.
At Halo Project, we provide specialist, culturally informed support for survivors facing honour-based abuse and other hidden harms.
We listen.
We believe.
We protect.
