As part of Welfare at Work Week, UNISON's Seasonal Food Fund opens for applications at 12 noon on TODAY (Wednesday 30 September) and remains open for just 24 hours.

Eligible members on a low income or receiving certain means-tested benefits could receive a £30 food voucher for each qualifying person in their household, including partners and dependent children.

✅ Must be a UNISON member with at least 4 weeks' membership
✅ Subscriptions must be up to date
✅ Limited funds available, so successful applicants will be selected at random

If you're experiencing financial difficulty, make sure you have your membership number ready and don't miss the application window.

The Government announced that from next April, women and their partners will be entitled to two weeks of bereavement leave following pregnancy loss.

Until now, there has been no legal right to time off when a pregnancy is lost before 24 weeks.

Losing a pregnancy can be devastating, and people deserve the time and space to grieve without the pressure of having to return to work immediately.

The Government are also introducing wider changes to give people greater rights to time off for the bereavement of a loved one. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

These changes gives people the space, dignity and compassion to process loss and UNISON is pleased that these protections will become law. 💛

‘Support staff are showing up for pupils every day, but can't be expected to be the answer to teacher shortages’ says UNISON

As reported in the The Mirror today, our research shows many support staff are covering classes without extra pay, taking them away from work pupils depend on.

Children and young people deserve better. Schools need proper investment and enough staff in every role.

'Teaching assistants, school admin, pastoral, catering, facilities, cleaners and all other school support staff are long overdue a better deal,’ says UNISON general secretary Andrea Egan.

👉 If you're a school support staff member in England then you should have received an email this morning asking you to vote in the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) consultation.

💥 It's really important that you vote in the consultation as the SSSNB will negotiate pay, conditions and training for school support staff in all state-funded schools including academies, with a dedicated focus on the priorities and workplace realities of school support staff.

📆The consultation closes at noon on 6 October, but we advise you to vote early and encourage your school support staff colleagues to do the same!
