Think a settlement agreement means you've done something wrong? Think again.

Settlement agreements are one of the most misunderstood areas of employment law.

Many employees believe:
❌ Being offered one means they're at fault
❌ The first offer is non-negotiable
❌ They can sign without legal advice

The reality? Settlement agreements are often used to resolve workplace issues quickly, confidentially, and on mutually agreed terms.

Before signing, make sure you understand:
✔️ Exactly what you're being offered
✔️ Whether the terms can be negotiated
✔️ Your rights and obligations after signing

A settlement agreement is a legally binding document, so independent legal advice is essential before you accept any offer.

If you've been offered a settlement agreement and need expert advice, our Employment Law team is here to help.

How long is too long to wait for repairs?

For our client, it was years.

Despite repeatedly reporting damp and mould, leaks, defective plasterwork, damaged brickwork, and a faulty boiler, the issues remained unresolved.

Instead of seeing the repairs carried out, she was eventually served with a Section 21 notice and forced to leave her home.

Our housing disrepair team stepped in and successfully secured £5,000 in compensation on her behalf.

No tenant should have to live in unacceptable conditions while their concerns are ignored.

If you’ve reported repair issues to your landlord and nothing has changed, you may have legal options available.

The Government's proposed social housing reforms aim to ensure that victims of domestic abuse are not forced to leave their homes while perpetrators remain.

It's a positive step, but housing reform alone cannot solve the wider challenges survivors face.

True protection requires a coordinated response involving housing providers, police, courts, domestic abuse services, financial support and access to justice. Victims need more than a change in tenancy rules; they need safety, support and a realistic path towards rebuilding their lives.

In our latest article, we explore what the proposed reforms could mean in practice, the challenges that remain, and why access to compensation through CICA can also play an important role in recovery.

£4,750 ➜ £170,000

This carousel highlights the key points from one of our recent successful CICA tribunal appeals.

Our client suffered a serious shoulder injury following a violent assault. Despite the lasting impact on his ability to work, the CICA initially awarded just £4,750.

We believed the decision failed to properly reflect the severity of his injuries and the effect they would have on his future employment. Following a successful tribunal appeal, the award was increased to £170,000, an uplift of approximately 6,082%.

Swipe through to see the key facts behind this case and how the tribunal reached its decision.
