June 2027 sees the 8th Edition of our online summer school in ethnographic and documentary filmmaking and the 18th anniversary of Filmmaking for Fieldwork - F4F™️ June 2022 will see the 14th Edition of the F4F Summer School in audio-visual research and documentary filmmaking. If you are interested to see how filmmaking can help you to explore your subject and reach a wide audience, then this practical course provides training in fieldwork methods, camera, sound and editing skills, ethics, modes of representation and online tools for the modern researcher. CameraWise will celebrate the opening of the FMG Media Lab at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) with seven fully funded spaces on the Filmmaking for Fieldwork (F4F) Summer School (Monday afternoons 8 June - 6 July) for researchers who work in the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) at UvA. On Friday 17 April, 4-6pm we are launching our latest publication Empirical Art: filmmaking for fieldwork in practice (published by Manchester University Press in 2026 as part of the Granada Centre’s Anthropology, Creative Practice and Ethnography book series). Volume editors and contributors will be present to answer questions posed by anthropologist Jeanette Pols, followed by a wrap party for CameraWise with food and drinks.
