Before Christmas we mapped the farm's vulnerabilities. Everything, from a small number of organic seed suppliers to our irrigation system reliant on power from the grid; from a reliance on a small number of knowledgeable people to strong winds across the farm. We have identified many near future challenges and started up dating our business risk register.

One result of this is to hold a Resilience Day in March, working though a whole range of scenarios to help us become more prepared for shocks. If you would like to join us to work through imagined situations like power cuts, flooding, field fires, pandemics, do get in touch. We are particularly keen to involve those who have worked in relevant areas.

And a fascinating conversation at ORFC, hosted by the Sheepdrove Trust and guided by Tim Lang and his Just in Case food security report, has reiterated the need for Kindling Farm to be resilient, if it is to play a future role in fixing our hugely vulnerable food system.
