Under 9s MATCH REPORT!

U9s took to the road with their first away fixture of the season to Anselmians and what a morning of rugby it was! The sun was shining, the bacon was sizzling and the kids were once again on fire, winning 14-6!

Several parents from the opposition stopped to say just how drilled and how organised we were - high praise for a team that has only been together for 6 weeks!

We’ve been working on a couple of rules at a time and just drilling and embedding it until it sticks - I think we’ll all be hearing “line on me” in our sleep now thanks to Myles W - who is quickly becoming our defensive line advocate!

Another solid performance from our more experienced players - some strong forward running and superb tackling from Olly M and Charlie W.

It was great to see the team take the tackles (and the balls) and just get on with it - Rupert took a bullet of a pass straight to the nose, and was closing players down within minutes!

Another magical performance from our twinkle toes Marshall M - deservedly getting our first parents player of the season.

A big shout out to Albie W for his first try of the season, quickly followed by a second - brand new to rugby and he has taken to it like a duck to water!

Player of the match went to Eva what a debut! You’re a natural girl - looks like you’ve been tackling for years! Ran your socks off for the whole match, letting very few, if any, players past you!

Highlight of the game has to be saved for our youngest coach in the club who stepped up and reffed the game doing a great job despite our manager (and his mum) pecking his head from the side line! Thankfully he ignored most of her input and allowed both teams to just play rugby, keeping the game moving, playing advantage where possible whilst being fair yet understanding.

Next week we take on Marple at home, it would be great to see you all there to watch another U9 performance - I promise you will not be disappointed!

⚪️ Collegiate 27-19 Bongs 🔵

The lads fought hard with some entertaining rugby.

Fair play to Collegiate who in the last 10 minutes did what was needed to see the game out in their favour.

We look forward to the return fixture but lots of positives to take from this afternoon.

Unfortunately our second team/2017 first team game 😂, has been cancelled due to Aspull not being able to raise a team!

Massive thank you to all the lads that stepped up to play!

Supporters you still have chance to make your way to Liverpool collegiate to catch the first team, for a 3pm KO

Matchday Squads

1XV on the road to our friends at Liverpool Collegiate for a 3pm Kick Off. Number of changes across the pack as the injury list racks up. Kieran returns at 9 to replace injured Charlie Dicky too.

2XV credit to a number of the ‘old boys’ stepping up this week. If the year was 2016 (even 2006 in some cases!) many of these would be in our 1XV but with knees and back problems, game time is limited!

If you can’t get to Liverpool to support 1XV on their travels then get down to Bongs HQ for a 3pm Kick off of Joue Joue Rugby.

This Saturday we look to bounce back from a tough weekend for both sides and get some forward momentum going again.

The 1XV make the trip to Liverpool Collegiate, while the mighty 2s welcome Aspull to St George’s Park.

Both teams will be looking to put last weekend behind them, respond strongly and get back to winning ways.

1XV - Liverpool Collegiate (A) 3pm KO - L19 3QF
2XV - Aspull (H) 3pm KO - M29 8HG

TYLDESLEY 29–32 FLEETWOOD

Following last week’s demolition job on Leigh, the Bongs welcomed Fleetwood in a game sponsored by the Vice Presidents.

The past players got the day started early with plenty of Cruzcampo and Guinness, alongside the usual debates over whether Wacker has ever bought a round. No agreement was reached.

The lads were also presented with their new shirts by club legend Dave Phillips — a fantastic moment and one we’re sure everyone will remember. Thank you, Dave!

Tyldesley raced into a 12–0 lead before Fleetwood fought back with their strong carries. The sides traded scores before the Bongs went into half-time 17–10 ahead.

Captain Ben Dickinson led from the front, with Charlie causing problems with his sniping runs, Callum putting in another strong performance and debutant Dan Ivanov having an outstanding game.

Tyldesley extended their lead to 29–18 with just 10 minutes remaining, but Fleetwood refused to give up, scoring twice late on to sn**ch a 32–29 victory.

A frustrating result, but plenty of positives and plenty to learn from. Man of the Match went to debutant Dan Ivanov, with tries from Ben (2), Callum (2) and Danny, and James adding the conversions.

The celebrations continued in the clubhouse, with Broady even buying a round — now all we need is Wacker to follow suit!

Thanks to everyone who came down to support the boys, and a big thank you to physio Alfie as he moves on to pastures new. You’ll be missed.

Next week: First XV travel to Liverpool Collegiate, while the seconds host Aspull.

UP THE BONGS!

Under 9s kicked off their season as we welcomed friends from Lymm to Bongs HQ.

Coaches had the following to say;

‘What a start to the season for our U9s!

Facing a strong Lymm side in three back-to-back games, drawing one and winning the other two 😎 but it really wasn’t, and isn’t (yet) about winning!

It was brilliant to see how much grit and determination the players showed from start to finish… honestly you wouldn’t think it was a team that formed only 5 weeks ago!

A big thank you to the Lymm referee for helping settle the nerves of those making their rugby debut, supporting and guiding our minis and juniors to become better is exactly what it’s all about.

Every Tyldesley player was well up for it - and for 3 games, with no subs! Our opening try was a beauty: two cheeky passes along the line, then the ball came back to George, who thundered through four players to score!

From here their confidence just grew, with fancy footwork, strong forward running and quality tries from several players. Is it too early to call our future full-back? Tenner bet on Marshall M playing for the seniors in ten years’ time!

Player of the Match went to Charlie W. With rugby in his blood, and an attitude that every coach dreams of it was no surprise that he had the debut that he had!

Charlie was involved in every play: quick on his feet, tackling hard, following up missed tackles (an absolute beauty of a tackle just inches from their try line which was then converted to a try for us). He looks for the pass, supports his teammates in attack and defence and communicated throughout! Well done mate!

A fantastic team performance all round from every single one of them; some quality rugby and some lovely personal moments of magic seen from all at one point or another!

We already can’t wait for next week!’

Well done U9s!
