COMMUNITY FUN DAY AT ANNIE LEES PARK.
I have been swamped by the messages and support i got in local elections few weeks ago. Just finished the training and induction at town-hall and feeling more grounding than ever after my first interaction with the local community groups and listening to each person and their problems and how i can solve them, sign post them and raise issue with the local authorities and relevant communities and make the residents lives easier amidst this environment of hate and war mongering slogans. We at the & believe in listening and devolution of power and coming up with the solutions together with the community rather than parachuting policies which don’t belong to the area.
The people who work in the community are the most selfless people who sacrifice their personal lives and comforts to make their areas more humane and compassionate. That’s is what i restored my belief in today.
I met who are based in M13 Beresford Road. A very talented group of bengali women.
I spoke to who works across multiple areas either it’s health disparities or bringing community to food tables and had a greater discussion with which represents gambian culture and looking forward to move as a fully functional organisation and serve the locals.
There was interesting conversation as well with the local women coaches from who shared the personal stories and how they are helping women to break the stereotypes, trauma cycles and fitness taboos imposed by masculinity and cultural clutches.fusionz_ also had an amazing stall working with kids to explore creativity in everyday life through multiple activities.
Huge shoutout to neighbourhood manager jane and community development officer fowsia for amazing efforts to inform people about the upcoming investment as a part of PRIDE IN PLACE and how that investment can be made more inclusive through community input and feedback.
