A night of unity, reflection and real conversation 🌙✨
Our Annual Iftar 2026 brought the community together to break fast and connect. This year’s theme was civic engagement and taking part in the political process - because our voices matter.
We were honoured to hear from Cllr Sue Jameson, who spoke about the importance of getting involved and shaping decisions in our local communities.
More than just a meal - this is about representation, empowerment and building our future together. 🙌🏿

Supporting Somali Diaspora Communities in the UK to Reduce the Cost of Remittances
The UK is home to a vibrant Somali diaspora, many of whom regularly send money to support families and communities back home. In partnership with RISE Projects, (WIT), (ATM), and il, IOM in the UK has delivered digital financial literacy workshops to help community members send money more safely, affordably, and efficiently.
Since 2024, over 670 participants have learned to use digital tools with confidence, reducing transfer costs by an average of 45% and ensuring more support reaches those who need it most. Beyond finances, these workshops strengthen community ties and empower diaspora members to make a real impact in their families’ lives.

Diaspora communities are powerhouses of change.
An inspiring evening hosted by IOM UK and IOM - UN Migration bringing together UK-based Somali professionals and community leaders to highlight how diaspora-led initiatives are supporting locally owned projects in the Somali regions, from health and education to infrastructure.
We were pleased to represent RISE Projects as part of the panel discussion alongside Abdiaziz Arab, Safia Jama MBE and moderated by Killian Clifford, sharing learning from our work with IOM over the past two years on digital financial literacy. This has focused on supporting UK-based Somali communities to increase their understanding of digital remittances and crowdfunding platforms, helping strengthen collective giving and investment into locally led development.
A powerful reminder of the impact diaspora-led approaches can have when communities are informed, engaged, and supported

We recently held a successful and highly productive Somali Network meeting, with a strong focus on commissioning and partnership working. The session created valuable space for open dialogue around priorities, opportunities, and how commissioning can better respond to the needs of Somali and other underserved communities.
The meeting was also attended by community organisations, faith groups, and local businesses across Haringey, reinforcing the strength and breadth of local engagement and collaboration.
We stood with Mahad Abdi Mohamed’s family and the wider community at Enfield Civic Centre, united in a peaceful call for justice and accountability. Our presence showed that Mahad’s life mattered and his case has not been forgotten.
We will continue to stand together, raise our voices, and demand justice until it is delivered.

Great to end the year with another successful Housing Surgery, delivered in partnership with The session provided residents with direct, face-to-face access to housing officers and practical support on issues including repairs, overcrowding, housing options and the wider cost of living. Bringing services into a trusted community setting continues to make a real difference for residents who may otherwise face barriers to accessing support.
Thank you to everyone involved in delivering the session for their continued collaboration and dedication to provide accessible, effective support. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together this year and look forward to strengthening this partnership further in the year ahead.
