It’s an honour to be one of the featured drummers on s music production program. We recorded LOADS of drums for a week at Berlin’s brilliant , which were then mixed and adapted to the incredible song-writing tool TONALIC. If you want some inspiration to write songs and want to use real musicians (without, you know, using REAL musicians!) then give it a try x

Nice sounds here for . The snare is known at my studio as the Cow Drum, an old metal barrel with a bit of a poor old cow strapped to it. It DID NOT die in vain. I’ve put an old Acrolite under it for the snare-y-ness, close mic’d and cranked, plus a load of random studio bits on top of the hats and cranked that too, with a reverb to give it some length. Also I got some brass vases from a charity shop which are doing the agogo thing

Worked with Jumping Jack Frost this week on some Drum n Bass grooves. He’s a hero of mine from back in my DnB raver days, a massive influence on the kind of music I love too. Here’s something from our session. Much love to you Frost!! The tune is bangin! Also features in keys (but you’ll hear that bit of awesomeness when it’s released!)
Sounds: high-ish tuned kick and super cranked old Acrolite, crashes and a well-timed compressor smashed over the whole mix. Quite a few mics involved, most useful is probably my crappy old tape dictaphone I got from Oxfam. Plus, this is just funk but at 170BPM 🤘❤️🥁✊
