Diff Rokka

Got a few new bits for the studio. Since my main DAW MacBook is strictly frozen offline, I’ve set up a separate satellite workstation using an old MacBook Air—purely because I needed to get my hands on the Amigo Sampler VST for chopping breaks and getting that authentic, crunchy Akai/Amiga 8-bit flavor.

​I'm routing MIDI from the main machine out through a new CME MIDI Thru box and a C2 MIDI Pro interface to trigger it like a piece of vintage outboard gear. It's locked in and rolling nicely so far.

スタジオの機材を少しアップデート。メインのDAW用MacBookは完全オフライン環境で完全に固定（フリーズ）してあるので、アミーゴ・サンプラー（Amigo Sampler VST）をどうしても使いたくて、配信用に別の古いMacBook Airをオンラインのサテライト・ワークステーションとして立ち上げました。これでアーメンなどのドラムブレイクをサンプリングして、あの往年のAkaiやAmiga特有のヴィンテージなローファイ・サウンドを鳴らしています。

メインのMacBookからのMIDI信号は、新しく導入したCMEのMIDI ThruボックスとC2 MIDI Proインターフェースを経由して送信。まるで外部のハードウェア・サンプラー（実機）をトリガーしているような感覚で、今のところハイブリッドなワークステーションとしてかなり調子よく同期して動いています！

Got a vintage outboard compressor. Picked up a dbx 166A. Gonna be using it mainly for energising breaks and basses for that classic hardware VCA grit.

I recently moved house, so I had to re-setup the studio. I moved some things around and also added the Arturia Microfreak to the synth lineup.

​Along with the new room, I’m changing my workflow a bit. I'm leaning much more into sampling and the electronic side of things.

最近引っ越しをしたので、スタジオを再セットアップしました。配置を少し変えて、シンセのラインナップにArturia Microfreakを追加しています。

新しい部屋に変わったのを機に、制作のワークフローも少し変えてみました。最近はサンプリングや、よりエレクトロニックなアプローチにかなり傾倒しています。

イギリス滞在中に、友人のHarryからTHE MAD CAPSULE MARKETSのミニDVD「OSC-DIS」をもらいました。最高のクリスマスプレゼント！

実はこれ、ずっとコレクションから抜けていた1枚。UK盤『010』に付いていた通常サイズのDVDは持っていたんですが、この3インチディスク版は持っていませんでした。

今のCD／DVDプレイヤーだと再生が難しいよね、なんて冗談で話していたんですが、よく考えたらうちにはPlayStation 2があって、ちゃんと3インチ対応のトレイがあるので、まだ楽しめます！

Harryと僕がイギリスでMADを初めて知ったのは、たしか2001年頃、中学生の時。そこからもう25年以上、このバンドへの愛を共有してきました。

I got this mini Mad Capsule Markets OSC-DIS video DVD from my friend Harry while I was visiting the UK. What a great Christmas present!

This was missing from my collection. I have the full size version that came with the UK release of 010, but I never had the 3 inch disc version! We joked about how it's difficult to play on modern CD and DVD systems. But actually I still have my Playstation 2 which has a 3 inch space in the CD tray so I can still enjoy it!

My buddy Harry and me first discovered MAD in the UK together back in probably around 2001 when we were in junior high school, so we've shared our love for the band for 25 years now!

#ザマッドカプセルマーケッツ

新年ということで、ベース弦を新しく試してみます。

これまで D’Addario のミディアムゲージ（50–120）を使っていましたが、4弦のサウンドにずっと満足できず、特にサステインが足りないと感じていました。

そこで今回は、Fender のテーパー巻き弦を試してみることに。テーパー弦は今回が初挑戦です。

Gotoh のブリッジにも、今までよりしっかりフィットしてくれて、サステインも良くなるはず。

ゲージは少し細くなるので、低音感は多少減るかもしれませんが、その分、明るさやパンチ感が出てくれることを期待しています。

さて、どんな音になるか楽しみです。

It's a new year, so I'm gonna try out some new bass strings.

Up until now I've been using D'addaroo medium gauge (50 - 120), but I've never been satisfied with the sound from the fourth string. It's always lacked sustain.

So I'm gonna try this taperwound set from Fender. It's my first time to try taper wound bass strings.

They should sit more snuggly in my Gotoh bridge and give a bit more sustain.

The gauge is a little lighter than before, so I might lose a bit of low end, but I should gain some brightness and punch. Let's see how it sounds.
