Sankofa bird inspired crafts with Movema
Make your own feather wings or bird masks. Option to use this costume and perform in Taking Flight show!

Storytelling and Poetry with Tayo Aluko
Multicultural children’s stories followed by a chance for people of all ages to contribute to create a collaborative poem.

2pm – 3.30pm
Mancala & Dominoes Game
Come learn how to play Dominoes and the popular Mancala game played across Africa!

2.20pm – 3pm
Drumming performance & Workshop with Beatlife
Afro-Brazilian and Cuban grooves with modern urban beats, a smiling celebration of this unique, intergenerational group.

3.50pm – 5.20pm
Abstract African Mask Making with Leonisha Barley
Inspired by the bold patterns, shapes and artistic traditions of African design, this hands-on activity invites children and adults to create their very own unique mask together.

4.30pm – 5.10pm
Singing Workshop with Bruce Ncube
Traditional songs from Zimbabwe and Southern Africa in 3 to 6-part harmonies with an award-winning artist and song sharer.

Yoga practice with Ray
Connect with nature and yourself with a calming yet energising session. Bring your own mat or blanket.

1.40pm – 2.20pm
Afro Caribbean Dance with Dancing Queens
Powerful movement, feel-good vibes, an uplifting Caribbean Carnival dance workshop open to all.

3pm – 3.30pm
Afro Fusion - Sankofa Bird dance with Dori
Learn a lively routine with the option to join the Taking Flight show happening each day!

3.50pm – 4.30pm
Rhythm, Rhyme & Roots with Blue Saint
Interactive family workshop using rhythm, call-and-response, spoken word and rap to help participants create a short collective piece.

5pm – 5.40pm
Kizomba Dance with Afro Dance Academy
Fun, beginner-friendly workshop open to all ages. Explore the basics of Kizomba, connection, rhythm, and movement in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Fun workshop for all ages, dance along on a trip around the world with rhythms from the African Diaspora!

Afro Fusion - Sankofa Bird dance with Dori
Learn a lively routine with the option to join the Taking Flight show happening each day!

Afro & Urban Dance with Nessa Ndong
Build rhythm, confidence and creativity in a fun, welcoming space suitable for all ages and abilities.

3.30pm – 4.10pm
Capoeira For All
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian artform combining music, dance, martial arts and culture. Join us for a fun and engaging workshop!

4.20pm – 4.40pm
Main stage act Kizaba – Ngoné Gueyé
Interactive dance workshop, Congolese electronic act from the main stage programme.

5pm – 5.40pm
Tap dance with Sole Rebel
Family-friendly percussive dance workshop rooted in rhythm tap and live jazz music, and demo from Sole Rebel’s professional company.

Announcing 2 more acts performing at 'Celebrate With Me' festival, bringing vibrant folk dances from Latin America!

We welcome back Colombian group 'Tamboré' who will be sharing 'La Puya' dance from the Caribbean coast in partnership with Movema's World Fusion dancers at 12.45pm.

And for the first time, we are honoured to be hosting dancers from Rhythms of Peru, a cultural group dedicated to sharing the rich traditions of Peru through dance, music, and community engagement. Performing at 1.30pm.

What a beautiful celebration of culture, community, and connection. Dances of Diaspora! brought together communities from across Bristol for a joyful celebration of movement, heritage, and shared experience at the RWA Gallery.

Produced in partnership with Diverse Artists Network and RWA, the event transformed the gallery into a vibrant space full of dance, music, participation, and cultural exchange.

From Colombian folk dance and Tibetan traditional dance to Jamaican Junglist movement, Turkish finger cymbals, and the powerful collective ‘Unity Dance’, the day highlighted dance traditions that are so often underrepresented in major cultural spaces.

One of the most special parts of the event? Many participants and audience members had never visited the RWA before. 🧡 Seeing communities dancing throughout the gallery, in between the Dance Out exhibition artworks, created such a unique atmosphere of creativity, connection, and joy.

Movema were proud to support the event as producers and delivery partners, bringing our experience of community-centred cultural events and diverse dance practices into the project.

Huge thank you to all the artists, facilitators, participants, Diverse Artists Network, RWA, and Arts Council England for making it such an incredible day.

We couldn’t be more excited to have the amazing Iris from at World Fusion Bristol! For the next few weeks Iris will be teaching Commercial Latin which brings together the best Latin Dance styles. Iris always brings amazing energy to her classes and we cant wait! 🔥 World Fusion is a fun and inclusive dance class open to all ages and abilities. Come and join us on Tuesdays 7.30pm at The Island, Bristol.
