This Men’s Health Week, it’s worth remembering that mental health support isn’t only for crisis points. 🩵

Sometimes support is about building confidence, feeling less isolated or having someone to talk things through with before things become overwhelming.

Through our Trailblazer programme, we support 18–25-year-olds experiencing mental health challenges, helping young people explore their next steps in a way that works for them, without pressure or judgement.

Because asking for support shouldn’t have to wait until things feel unmanageable. 💛

Attention: Our lovely volunteers at Nowell Mount Community Centre have been devastated to discover that their pumpkins and squash plants have been ripped out by mindless vandalism!

Sadly, it’s now too late in the season to grow them again from seed, meaning we could face a whole year without pumpkins on our plot.

We’re hoping our community can help. 🧡

Does anyone have any spare pumpkin or squash plants they would be willing to donate? We’d love to fill this now-empty space with some autumn produce.

All the food we grow is shared free of charge with our hard-working volunteers and local neighbours.

If you can help, please get in touch. 🌱

Emily and Louise had a lovely time at Co-operative Nightingale where they got to meet the new chicks during their weekly Let’s Read volunteering session 🐣 📚💛

A lovely hands-on moment alongside the children, bringing stories and learning to life in a really special setting!

We were delighted to attend the inaugural Children’s Creative Writing Competition Awards 2026 at The Grammar School at Leeds. 📚✨

Organised by Leeds Lit Fest, this year's theme was '400', celebrating 400 years since Leeds received its first Royal Charter.

It was inspiring to see so many children and young people put their creativity into words, and a real privilege to hear finalists read their stories and poems on the night. 🩵

Events like this are a reminder of why literacy matters. Through our Let’s Read and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programmes, we see every day how reading and writing can build confidence, spark imagination and help children find their voice.

A huge congratulations to all the entrants, finalists and winners, and thank you to everyone involved in such a wonderful celebration of young talent across our city. 💛

A day to celebrate 🩵🦁

Recently, we enjoyed a fantastic trip to Ponderosa Zoo with families from our Single Parent Power programme, marking the end of a project that has supported so many parents on their journey towards employment, training and greater confidence.

The programme has helped single parents overcome barriers, develop new skills and, for many, successfully return to work. This trip was a chance to celebrate those achievements and the hard work of everyone involved. 💛

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for making this programme possible and helping us support families over the course of the project.

We're incredibly proud of everything our participants have achieved and this may be the end of the programme, but it's certainly not the end of their journeys.

Stay tuned to hear directly from some of the families themselves in the coming weeks!

What keeps people coming back to our Roots & Shoots gardening group each week? 🌱🩵

For Volunteers’ Week, we asked some of our amazing volunteers exactly that.

Here’s what one of them had to say 💛

If you’d like to get involved, join us on Mondays from 10am–12pm at Nowell Mount Community Centre, LS9 6JJ.

No gardening experience needed, just come along and give it a try!

We had a lovely time leading our monthly Burmantofts patch meeting for organisations to come together, share ideas and set actions. 💬

Big thanks to Bridge Community Church for hosting us and treating everyone to lunch, always appreciated when good conversations come with good food! 🥪💛

Happy World Environment Day 🌱

At our community garden in LS9, we’re passionate about creating spaces where nature can thrive, especially for our pollinators. 🐝🦋

Did you know that around one in every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators? Whether you’re a fan of insects or not, they’re incredibly important to our environment and food supply. 💛

A huge thank you to RHS Community Gardening for donating a fantastic selection of flowering plants to help attract birds, bees and other wildlife to our Nowell Mount oasis. 🌸🌿

Every new plant helps create a more welcoming space for both people and nature.
